Red Lead From Speedometer

Discussion in 'Vintage' started by MHRat, Jan 8, 2022.

  1. Hi

    MHR900

Can anyone tell me where the red lead out of the back of the speedo goes please? It has a spade connector fitted but was not attached to anything.

    cheers
    Niall

  2. Sorry, I've been away a while. The speed and tacho each have a ground and live wire for the lamp bulbs. On my bike the ground wires are green and the lives are brown/white. All four connect to four female connectors, black for ground, yellow for live at the left front side of the tank. Not very elegant but it works. The pic shows the four male/female plugs tie-wrapped in the centre of the picture.

  3. Thanks Rick - mine has those and the lights work. This Red lead seems to have no purpose. It’s not on the wiring diagram for the MHR. I wonder if it’s been “inherited” from a different loom in the same way as the “Stand” light.

  4. Some versions of Nippon Denso speedos have instrument lamps in the face, although Ducati versions don't. I wonder if your red wire is for an unneeded lamp?
