Update-stolen Bike 1098s Solihull Weds 5:30pm

Discussion in 'Stolen Bikes/Parts' started by Symon Moore, Jan 14, 2022.

  1. I bow to your experience. But for my use I’m perfectly happy with it. If a pro wants your bike it’s as good as gone regardless I fear.

  2. Even then the chain and lock connecting the bike to the anchor must be thief proof and judging by the vids on youtube...

  3. I think all you can really do is make it as awkward, difficult and noisy as possible for the thieving oik. The opportunist thief will give up quickly and look for something easier, the PRO will nick it anyway no matter what you do.

  4. How much did you like the bug v twin grunt? The 1199 is a lot different to the 1098 or 1198, I had a 1098 then to a 1199,and thought I loved it till I got on an 1198, .then got rid of my 1200s monster for a v4 streetfighter, and now want a monster again.

  5. Your welcome mate

  6. You’ve got a point. A determined, tooled up and experienced thief will be hard to repel if your bikes on his radar. The trick is to make your bike harder to pinch than the one a couple of doors down. Apply the layers. It’s all about the layers!

Your set up is more than adequate for scrotes. My set up isn’t impregnable, but I like to think I make it tricky for the bastards.

  7. Big thick fuck off chain and matching padlock. Keep it off the ground. Can only be defeated with a cordless cutting disc. Takes a bit of time and makes an almighty din.

  8. And a garage alarm. Two rabid dogs. No advertising that any bikes ‘live here’. Secure garage door blocked by two other vehicles etc etc.

  9. Under a minute probably.

  10. The 1098s was the bike I always wanted & I had that one exactly how I wanted it so I do worry that just replacing it like for like won’t be the right thing to do.
Maybe a Panigale is the right itch to scratch now but if the right 1198s comes along i will quite possibly pull the trigger too.

  11. These look interesting?

  12. By you, yeah. But you're our resident Super Hero. After me of course.....

  13. All of that. Your number 1 of course is concealment. Tricky if you're one of these weirdos that road rides a lot. But if no one knows it's there..... :imp:

  14. Again, trackers might work against low voltage scrotes, but the big boy bike thieves aren’t too perturbed by them…

  15. What Simon Audi wrote:
...That was in with Resin Anchors...

I think that's the trick here - resin anchors that bond to the concrete, not purely mechanical (expansion bolt) fixings.
Still only needs a battery angle grinder tho' for the chain...

  16. :DWhen I left school I did an apprenticeship as a fabricator welder, so know what a decent grinder can do. Diddy little grinders scrotes carry will take longer. A pro gang with a proper tool and cutting disc, seconds. I wouldn't get in the way of someone waving a decent grinder about unless I had a scaffold pole either.

  17. First of all I’m really sorry your bike got stolen, my Lotus got stolen 15 years ago and it still bugs me, horrible experience.

A friend of mine has rigged up a car horn in his garage, connected to a 12v battery which he periodically charges. It’s triggered by a bonnet switch set in the doorframe of his garage, he has has a hidden push switch that disables it for when he enters the garage , I thought well that’s a bit Heath Robinson but as he said it’s virtually free using an old car battery and second hand parts from the scrappers.

He demonstrated it , jeez car horns are seriously loud!!!, no way could you stay within 10 feet of it, anyway just a thought.

PS a habit I’ve gotten into is checking my mirrors just before I turn into my road, if there’s anyone behind me car or bike I pull up and let them go before turning into my road.

  18. Get a big and nasty land shark. Works for me.

  19. I have a house alarm which includes the garage but I never zone it simply because I am lazy. The only time its switched on is when I go to bed or leave the house. That said, I use a driveway sensor tactically positioned in my garage, one also in the shed and the sounder is in doors. Fab bit of kit and I actually caught a little sh1t stealing my £4k Carbon road bike when I forgot to close the garage; shows it works. Those sensors are available from eBay etc. for £20. I also have an AirTag with the speaker removed deeply hidden in the bike so I can track it within the Golden hour. Trackers etc. are easily blocked but Bluetooth being low frequency aren't covered in the jammer bands.

  20. there should be s sticky thread for this so we can swap ideas, its seems one security device is not enough

i have a massive lock through a scaffold eye in the concrete, plus a disc lock, tracker and any time the cars parked its trapped in the back of the garage, still doesn't stop me worrying if im away

i was sent a photo of a wheel chained to a lamp post where they had taken the wheel off to nick a Harley, so chain through the frame somehow?
