Chain Problem 998s

  1. Hi.
Probably a very basic problem but not one that I have ever experienced.
I have a low mile 998s which is tucked up for the winter but thought i should run her up to temp today. while doing so i noticed how loose the drive chain was, spun the wheel round revealing a correctly tensioned chain and then a very loose chain and so on. I can only presume the chain is knackered. Surprised though as the bike is a genuine low mile machine.
    Has anyone experienced this?
Am I right to think I need new chain and sprockets?
    cheers.

  2. Check the adjuster and swing arm bolts

  3. I re adjusted chain , torqued up the pinch bolts and still the same issue. none of these are moving its just some parts of the chain are very loose. Im now off to measure chain.

  4. Sounds knackered to me.
Time for a blingy gold one!

  5. Sounds like a seized chain link or links to me in which case id get a new chain.

  6. Agreed.

You may get some joy by cleaning and 'manipulating' the stiffer links but ultimately, you'd be better off with a new chain.

  7. Yes thanks guys. On measuring the chain a section had stretched quite a bit. So yes a new blingy gold chain.
The bike has only done 4k miles but when i purchased the bike at approx 3.2k and took her out for a shake down i had the rear lock due to a brake issue, i can only assume it was this that caused the damage as well as a chain that hasnt been used hardly at all in its life.
Any recommendations on a gold blingy chain ?

  8. I do hear that Ratners used to be the "Go To" for gold blingy chain...
