New Speed Cameras Detect Vehicles Braking

  1. I guess they to make self supporting revenues with the government cutbacks these days.

  2. It’s in Spain. I’m in the UK. Panic over.

  3. Its just a double installation of cameras to effectively make an average speed trap. So when you see one camera, you brake then don't speed back up until you have passed the second...

  4. I think in this country most forces use the fixed cameras as deterrent as people quickly get to know where they are, and the vans as a revenue stream because with those in most cases by the time you’ve seen the van and slowed down their camera has already nicked you?

Around here they have recently upgraded the fixed camera network but only have maybe half the actual internal mechanisms for them all and move them around to different locations periodically so you have to slow for them all because until you get up close you can’t tell which ones are operating and which are empty shells.

  5. I was told at a Speed Awareness course that only 14 out of 272 in Staffordshire are in operation at any given day. Broadly if you don't speed by more than 10% on motorways and never in a 30 zone you (like me for the last six years) are unlikely to have any problems with the yellow box cameras. Unless you live in Wales where more than half of their cameras are operational every day...

Google your county to get a better idea?

  6. Did they say what leeway the camera vans give?

  7. Afaik it depends on each individual police authority. West Yorkshire is 0% according to my ex traffic cop neighbour slow Dave.

  10. I thought the law was 10% then plus x MPH and that was the bit that was at regional discretion. I think most are 10% + 2mph, some a little more?

  11. As far as I know north wales is 0% tolerance too

  12. Happy to be corrected but I think policy and guidance on speeding comes ACPO. The law has no leeway. Andy

  13. True enough, though we are governed & policed by consent, and were both to become too (even more) pernickety and unreasonable, that consent may become under threat.

Although it could be argued that the national speed limit is 77mph, and is simply dressed up to make the peasants feel less aggrieved when caught speeding?
