V4 Anyone Miss Their 1260. Another Possible In-betweener!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by spanish, Mar 30, 2022.

  1. Thinking of moving on from my1260 PP. 4 years old this July and a brilliant bike -usually love riding it. Lots of character etc etc, Have ridden the V4 and Multi V2 both brilliant bikes.
Wonder if those who have moved from a 1260 twin to the V4 have any regrets?
My options are keep the 1260-wait for a new V4 PP - delivery next May. Trade in now ( offered a good price) and become an inbetweener buying the V2 but keep my name on the waiting list for a V4. I might actually find the V2 is a keeper!
    Any thoughts would be helpful.

  2. I also have a 1260PP. I believe your reasons for the change is yours alone. Whatever makes you happy is the deciding factor.
Personally, I can't justify the price upgrade to a similarly equipped MTSV4PP as I can practically buy a new BMW S1000RR for the difference in price and keep the 1260PP which can easily run for 100,000kms.

  3. I can’t justify the price difference between my 1260PP and the V4 PP.

Fingers crossed, it turns up next month.

  4. It depends on how you ride and what you use the bike for – I have never had the PP version of any of the Multistrada' s I have had, personally I just can’t justify the price difference from the “standard” S versions but each to their own.

I had a 1260S for 30k miles and it was a great bike, would have loved to have kept it but couldn’t justify that either! The 1260 has that twin character and delivers power in a big lump, loads of twin torque that becomes addictive.
Now on a V4S (6k miles so far) and it is a very different bike and one that has grown on me. The toys – radar etc are good to have and I do use them. The V4 motor is terrific, very smooth and linear power at all times, much more flexible than the twin. In sport mode it waves its head in the air under hard acceleration and hits stupid speeds very quickly, it’s a deceptively quick bike! Above 6k revs it sounds like a swarm of bees and just goes. Handling is just like the 1260S - despite the 19” front, 170 rear and the twin spar swing arm. Overall IMO the V4S is better than the 1260S.

I haven’t ridden the V2 Multi but have tried the 937 Monster and the 937 V twin is a lovely motor, smooth and happy to rev, you may miss the extra HP when it is in a Multi 2 up with luggage but still has plenty of go in it.
