Diavel Will Not Turn On….

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Nostromo, Apr 16, 2022.

  1. Went to move the Diavel today, mde electronics showed up briefly on the lower dash, but nothing else(nothing on dash at all now) checked battery 13.5 volts, sometimes get a reading of 9. Something but only a couple of times. Checked all fuses including main fuse. Abit stuck…..

    cheers

  2. Sounds like a weak battery
Do you use a battery tender when it’s not in use?

  3. You have remembered that it's a lithium battery ? I'd give the starter button cluster a spray of contact cleaner and a spray of water dispersant. Andy

  4. Only been left for a day without use.

  5. Went to Halfords, brand new battery reading 12.7 still nothing:(

  6. I would check the wiring that comes up around the headstock and plugs in to the back of the clocks, we have repaired a few with broken/stretched wires there!

  7. Gave this a try, no luck.

  8. Everything looks fine.

  9. How is the fob battery ? If that's flat, no signal. Have you tried using the button and code ? Andy

  10. Put a new battery in the fob, no response when using the button to enter the pin.

  11. Forgot to add, that when I tryed to get full lock in both directions, the pin that slides through the key barrel stuck, and as I moved the steering back it snapped one of the left side lever arm in half. Pin retired to the mid position after abit of pressure.
Not having any luck with bikes atm….

  12. Starting to think there maybe an ecu issue? The fact that the logo of the oem dash maker showed up a few times, may suggest that there was no output from the ecu.
As there is no power being delivered to the bike, I’m going to check the condition of the positive wire that comes off the battery and straight to the loom.

I also contacted Ducati Worcestershire, they said they have not encountered this, however on the Diavel forum, some users had the same issue (without mde showing on the dash)and had to have the hands free unit changed.

  13. So glad I’ve gone back to old school to a bike with a key and a manual steering lock. They didn’t fail on my Multi but there was always a trepidation on start up and never used the steering lock in fear it would get stuck somewhere locked on.

Hope you get it fixed :upyeah:

  14. Can't see why it would be the ECU but you have the original to try. Plug it in and see what happens. Andy

  15. Going to give that a try this week, I heard a buzz from the hands free switch this morning when trying again, mde flickered on again briefly.
Will try battery connection, ecu and inspect cables in depth. If that fails I will take it to Ducati Coventry for a diag etc.

Just as the weather gets better:weary_face:

  18. Have you tried putting the key fob on top of the antennae ? Andy

  19. Yeah, no luck. I think it is the hands free unit tbh, the slight buzz from that area after pushing the ignition button is a possible sign. When I swap the ecu over I will look at the unit and cables. Seems like these units are an issue on the Diavel and mts 1200.
