Chain Oiler On Ms V4s ?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by MarkAMS, Apr 17, 2022.

  1. Hi all,
Im just past the 1600km (since March 22) on my new Multistrada V4s, and I've already come to the conclusion that lubricating the chain with a spraycan is not going to be my new hobby, and is also downright inconvenient for multi-day rides through Europe. Before I owned shaft drive bikes..

Do you have any recommendations for a chain oiler on the V4s? Esystem from Scottoiler seems ideal, but I don't want to ruin the clean dashboard with an extra display.. (under rear seat?). There seems to be very little space on the V4s to mount the oil reservoir a bit out of sight.

Interested in suggestions for system/brand (scottoiler? Tutoro?) and mounting locations (pics?) for V4s.

    Anyone? Thx Mark

  2. I would look at the X system from Scottoiler. No control unit but still powered.
I managed to squeeze one onto a Monster 1200 under the seat. Much more flexibility in positioning and you don’t need to plumb it into a vacuum.

  3. I have the X system on my 1260 and it’s much neater, no control unit on the bars, you can adjust the flow on the unit very easily. One fill up will last for a whole tour if you have it set low (which is all it really needs).

I have mine on the frame below the tank but not sure where you could fit it on a V4.

Drop them an email they are very helpful

  4. Thx! XSystem seems to be the best option from Scottoiler. But positioning could be a challenge: not much room on the V4S to hide the unit.. For sure it will not fit under the seat.

I can only find images with the unit positioned at the outside of the frame.., not sure this really contributes to the looks of the bike. Any other ideas for positioning?

  5. I would think you could tuck it under the seat on the frame maybe? Mines in a similar position but at the front of the bike and it’s more hidden by the fairing. I know it only has to have a slight downward angle to work, you can’t have it horizontal. (And you need to be able to refil it, but the bottle allows you to squeeze oil in)

  6. I'll plug it as it's a brilliant little oiler and very easy to hide away with a minimum of effort in little fairing nooks.

  7. TBH, I'm not sure. Was looking at doing the same thing, so interested in your conclusions. It's a small unit, but not THAT small. Packaging on the MTS V4S is tight to say the least. Plus you have to be able to get at the thing to change the flow rate, etc. I've found the dimensions, if it helps.

  8. I was tempted, but after looking at the size of these things, I’ll stick to my no fling chain wax that hasn’t let me down in hundreds of thousands of miles in all weathers.

As long as I apply it when the chain is hot after a ride, it doesn’t go anywhere. A decent chain also helps.

  9. I checked with my local dealer: they hadn't seen an MS V4 with chainoiler yet. they too came to the conclusion that there is very little space for discrete installation, best would be if Ducati would offer this as factory mounted, a dedicated V4 design .. under saddle instead of tool set, a bit tight there due to flexible luggage holder. I would be willing to pay extra for this.

I'll stick to the sprays for now. Last week I was able to test travel-suitability (with Bel Ray Blue Tac) on driveway of my hotel in the Harz region in Germany (brilliant biking area btw): messy affair, but I didn't feel too bad because the hotel presented itself as biker-friendly. o_O

  10. Do you have any space under the rear fairing panels? I managed to place mine there on a 1200. The PD oiler mini is like 2 inches long and maybe an inch wide so it was easily strapped to the rear subframe. The reservoir is more of a challenge, on another bike I mounted to the rear of the numberplate, but a flexible reservoir like the scottoiler tube might squeeze into some other places.

This special edition of Louis of the scootoiler, was the one that was recommended to me by the scootoiler manufacturer, it is much smaller, something like the cone in the center of toilet paper, and it fits in either of the two much more hidden sides, I think that in the link comes with the measurements, although the tank is smaller, I don't mind recharging it once every 3000km, instead of every 6000, I hope it helps

  12. I have fitted a tutoro. Not particularly discreet , but works well. A picture of it on the post "chainmate"

  13. IT WORKS GREAT HAD IT ON MY 1260 ASWELL

  14. Nope, that still looks awful. I’ll stick to a can.
