Which Tracker

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by freshage, Sep 18, 2020.

  1. Hi, thanks for this it looks good but I really don't want to have to carry something like that about and if a chain is used to anchor the chain is the weakest link. I do use a basic disc lock when parked up unattended but usually it is garaged (yes with chain an anchor with good garage door security and external cameras) but my next step is if that fails that at least I'll know about it and have a chance of getting it back via a tracker.

On a side note I do remember seeing a disc lock that was attached directly to the calliper on the forum but for the life of me cannot find it now. Any help gratefully received.

    Cheers

  2. those are called roadlok's (ive got 3 bikes) and all of them have them fitted....best lock ever.....as ive got 3 locks i can leave spare pin in my jacket, one in my leathers and a spare in the garage...no matter what - youve always got your lock on you then...

  3. Yep, I've got Roadloks on two bikes, have had them for years, and IMO they are the best disc lock on the market.

  4. I have Apple Airtags hidden on my bikes and also MTB, it wont stop theft but i will know where the items are if needed.

I don't have an insurance requirement for a tracker, doesn't seem to be an issue where i live just yet...

  5. Got a trackers fitted as well, if a gust of wind moves any of them my phone goes off....

  6. the way i look at is that i use other devices and deterrents to prevent /give me warning of movement, opening of doors windows etc, if they want your bike and their in the house/garage let them take it.. as they have already breached your defences. the tracker is just a means of giving you your stolen bike back and to reduce the insurance liability.

Im lucky enough to not need to use my bike as transportation in cities etc. as that's a different story entirely

  7. I have biketrac on both dukes but imho biketrac became popular as offered free with dukes until 2020. I just met a guy who had 5 gs stolen even with BT fitted ! So the toe rags know where they r fitted and how to remove them .I add a few apple air tags cheap at £29 hidden deep in the bike . On my R9T I fitted a monimoto . I think as other posts state BT data tool are both good at a price. But only if you have added security hidden away , locks BIG DOG et

  8. As others have said, Roadlok is the item you've seen. @Billy Big Roy of this parish supplies them at a good price and offers an excellent service, as testified by many on this site.

  9. Had a cheap tracker, IIRC about £60, which I self fitted to the MV which was surprisingly good. Was exactly the same as sold by datatool shortly afterwards. Fitted a GiffGaff SIM card that sipped data home and abroad, the vendors off of eBay, a firm in Bristol*, provided a portal for a lifetime one-off fee of £60. All in it worked beautifully for the two and a bit years I had the bike. The portal showed location on a map with about 6 months of history. You could add boundaries with alerts via email or SMS.

*They no longer sell that tracker and the subscription cost for the portal has gone up significantly, no lifetime coverage either... This is the nearest equivalent on their site.

As posted previously I now have a Biketrac, insurance requirement for my previous property with no garage.
