V4 Multi Adaptive Cruise

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by hill100, Apr 26, 2022.

  1. Picking up my new Multi V4s radar tomorrow. I have been watching everything about it on Youtube in anticipation. Am I correct in thinking that i If switch on the cruise control it will only operate as adaptive, and that you can't just have cruise on without the adaptive also working?

  2. I believe you are right, I have ACS on my V4S and it only selects the adaptive cruise control. That is fine with me I just set it to a speed that is about the same as the limit (cough!) and it will then reach that set speed and if there is a vehicle in front of you it will slow down to that vehicles speed.

  3. as my car has adaptive cruise, it was a pleasant upgrade to get to on the new Multi

  4. Couple of things to add, once it gets down to about 20mph, with ACS engaged, lights start flashing to remind you that you only have 2 wheels not four when the traffic comes to a stop! The braking if a slower vehicle pulls out ahead of you can be quite fierce and you need to be prepared for that. The + and - buttons (LHS grip) allow you to vary the distance that the radar uses for the vehicle in front, useful in traffic or on motorways.

  5. I’ve not had a chance to go through the menus fully, but am sure I saw something in one of them to disengage the adaptive element of the cruise control. I could be wrong though.

  6. You are right, you can alter the distance of adaptive range but not switch it off

  7. Correct - in some circumstances it would be helpful to have standard cruise control, however, the adaptive can’t be switched off and does work well once you’ve got your head around it and how to use it it best effect.

  8. Adaptive CC is a bit of a pain in our fairly new VW Touran, it's ok usually but a bit keen on slowing the car down when there's really no need. Hope it's a bit more refined for bike use ...

  9. Same technology so I doubt it. Hate the adaptive cruise on my (VAG generation) Seat, if you are passing a lorry in lane 1 on the motorway and it’s on a bend, fecking thing slams the brakes on. Horrendous use of technology. Andy

  10. I'd bet that could give you fright if you are unprepared. Surely it's not enough to have you planking on the windshield?

There is one component that these systems in cars all rely on to work correctly and not create additional danger. A seat belt.

  11. We are testing the technology for a future with driverless vehicles with these things.

  12. I love the adaptive cruise on my Volvo, occasionally it can get a bit confused if cars change lanes but overall it’s a huge improvement on ‘dumb’ cruise control where you are constantly turning it on and off

  13. Personally I think it takes too much control away on a bike. My car ADC will make the car brake hard if a slower vehicle moves into the lane in front of me.

Not too sure I want that on a bike, riding a bike means keeping your wits about you at all times imho.

  14. I agree but the ACS can be useful on longer motorway sections and on the roads subject to average speed camera limits. As you say, I always keep my wits about me and only use it sparingly on longer trips.

  15. Agree on longer tours abroad maybe but no way I’d trust that on busy UK motorways. Won’t be long before we have 360 degree view with cameras in the mirrors, it’s all just a massive distraction and unnecessary.

  16. I seem to remember similar conversations when ABS came out?
E.G. “I don’t need that I can brake much better and stop faster with 2 fingers, it’s taking away my control”.

I guess if you don’t like then it don’t use it or buy the cheaper bike without it?

  17. I quite like it. Once you get used to it, and prepare for it to slow you down when you change lanes behind a slower vehicle, it works very well. It's so rare that I travel on dual carriageways or motorways though, it's not a feature that I'll be using that often.

  18. And if you’re not using motorways or dual carriageways then the blind spot is also questionable..how many cars overtake you on an A Road ?

Heated seat...thats the most important feature.

  19. Of late, I have noticed an increase in the number of riders who are intent on getting past me anywhere and everywhere at speed, which the blind spot detector would alert me to. First time I tried the heated seat, it felt like I’d poo’d myself, not a pleasant experience. Andy
