Too true - and it wasn't speed that nearly killed me - it was the sudden burst when she suddenly fired on both with a fist of throttle and leapt into life! Brought back memories of my old AS1 Yam two stroke twin. That used to fire up on one cylinder and again with a fist full of revs I've been star gazing several times when both cylinders decided to work.
Hi Chris, thanks, I don't really know what the issue is or even if there is one to be honest, like I say the motor runs fine and is always happy to pull, the only issue is the way it runs flat, almost like it drops a cylinder at a certain throttle opening, as you open the throttle it kicks back in and away we go, only an issue on wet roundabouts, and I hate the sound, like its running on one.. Met up with the DOC today and the general view was 'thats the way they are' if that's the case then fine I can ride around it but need to feel im not causing damage to the engine.. Im hoping to get a second opinion on it this week but can I come back to you if I need the mapping checking or a re flash..
Blimey an AS1 yammy, I started my Moto career on a YDS7, love the old Yamaha twins, like you say a bit irregular with the whole running on two thing.. bring this modern day 130bhp twin half way round a wet roundabout and there are a whole new set of issues to contend with.. Im learning to live with it on the assumption it is normal but if we can fix it alls the better...stay tuned
Started on an SS 50cc Yam (one before the FSIE and not the Honda SS50), then built the AS1 with AS3 engine with fibreglass tank, bucket seat, rear sets and clip-ons in chappie red (a real police magnet). Anyway, wrote that it off hitting a van and sold the remains to a guy from the south who had a collection of Italian bikes. It’s still on the DVLA database so probably still in someone’s garage!! Would love to know if its whereabouts - VRM: BRE 38J; reg on 13th July 1971. So, if any member knows someone with a stable of classic bike including my old one, please message me.
Hi Chris, I am looking for someone to check over and possibly remap the ECU for my 848 and it appears you may be the man.. I have been told by Pro Team there is an issue with it that is causing the engine to run flat at small throttle openings. Would be nice to have it run smoother if possible but some say they just run like this?? Please let me know, I can send you the report from Pro Team.. Thanks.....
I doubt it is a hole in the mapping causing the problem otherwise all 848’s would behave like this. Drop me the details off the white labels on the ECU and I will send you a loan ECU to try and see if that cures the problem. If not then something else could be causing the problem. It would then be a case of eliminating components or wiring fault (eg broken or chaffing wire). While you are at it replace the two micro relays on the right side of the battery box. By the way all the £95 ECUs on eBay are mine. The IAW5AM HW610’s can be flashed to suit your bike.
Great result - ChrisW was most helpful in advising and flashing my ECU for my 848! Many members on here are so generous and helpful for which I'm grateful. Now enjoy yer 848!
So just to let you guys know, the bike was set up again yesterday by L2 Servicing who I would definitely recommend if you are in the south, Andy is X Ducati and definitely knows his stuff, no fuss or dramas, all set up and now running lovely with no flat spot.. Big thanks to Chrisw for his help and all you guys for the encouragement, I knew we could find it.
