hi I am looking for a rear shock for my 99 748bip. I had mine sent to a shock boulder and they have found it now has a hole in the main body so it beyond repair. im not really that keen on putting another used Showa on there unless it has been rebuilt or I can get it at a sensible price to allow it to be sent for rebuild. or really push the boat out and go for a nitron (6 week wait). please send me a message if you have any options. cheers
thanks for the heads up @Sev I will look into them. its going to be £200 to get it rebuilt I don't really want to be putting a 20 year old shock without it being rebuilt so would like it cheep as poss. I see they are asking for between 200-300 on eBay depending on condition. total to get it on the bike of £500 I would almost rather take the beating from the wife and buy a new something? but I also have a mental problem with wanting what would have been fitted from factory!!
If the shock is identical to one fitted to other models, even if from other brands, it may help widen your search. Is there a Showa fitment chart that might help?
If you are not worried about originality Hagon will build you a spring and damper set up to your spec.
I have a freshly rebuild standard Showa for sale. New seals, fresh oil, Spring painted, grubby parts re-anodized and zinc plated. Could do with fresh stickers. Comes with Dyno graph. If you're interested send me a PM.
Hi there Shep! I will soon have an Ohlins DU 3420 available. These came stock on 916 SPs (not sure about 748 SPS/R). I purchased it last summer for my 916 biposto. As it came straight from a 95 bike, I had it professionally reconditioned and set up by Royal Suspension (France), including a new Ohlins spring (340€ bill for this job). It’s set up for an intermediate road use by a 90kg geared up rider. I will not need it anymore as the Biposto is now sold and replaced by a 916 SP3, which came with its own DU 3420… I have 800€ in it and just looking to get this back. Shoot me a pm if at all interested !
I have genuinely never heard of this happening. A rebuilt standard shock is worth not much more than you paid for it before the rebuild, so if you can manage it, I would invest in shiny trinkets of a Swedish nature, enjoy them (and you will - night and day between a standard Showa built for Joe Average and his Mrs, and an Ohlins correctly set up for just you) , and when you sell them one day on or off the bike, get your money back. Sorry, I have not helped you.
