Hi, parked up today and while I was away a van parked sort of next to the bike and clearly has a fuel leak, when I got back my rear tyre was sat in a puddle of diesel. Not really sure how long exactly but tops is two hours, I had nothing to clean it off with so just carefully rode home, iv given it a good scrub now but you can actually see where the tyre was sat in the fuel, the imprint of the road is in the tyre. What are your thoughts, new tyre or not new tyre, this is the question, it is a nearly new Rosso 3..Cheers.....
I’d wash it down with unleaded if it was mine. it’ll degrease the derv and evaporate. Then just take it easy for a few miles.
Did you report this to the police, it’s is not only a risk to you. But also a risk to all other PTW riders, not forgetting the environmental impact. I would guarantee the owner knows about this and does not give a toss. Good luck with cleaning the tyre.
With Derv at £1.80 ish a litre ,what sort of utter moron does not give a shit that the vehicle is pissing fuel out ,on top of the other issues this brings up .
Take it very easy Terry if you are riding on this tyre. Years ago I had the only off I have ever had when the tyres on my Multistrada were contaminated with diesel.
Brake cleaner might be your best bet. It works miracles on tyres if you catch the issue quickly. Apply liberally and rub hard with a J-cloth or similar. Not sure how much I would trust a tyre if it’s been left in for a while though.
Thanks for the input guys, went with a belt and braces approach, clean off with petrol, clean that off with brake cleaner, a quick burnout to make sure all has been evaporated off and a tentative ride, all appears ok and the tyre does not feel slimy like it did at first..
