Anyone Heard Of Klim?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by Paul55, Jun 21, 2022.

  1. Out in Kashmir riding the high passes and see a lot of riders wearing Klim. Seems like good stuff, well designed and effective.
Anyone been a long term user of this brand?

  2. It's well respected, tough kit generally. Made in the US I believe, well it's an American brand anyway. I have a Klim Marrakesh Jacket and gloves. Jacket is great and is an ideal jacket for warm weather riding, bought it from Motolegends in Guilford. The Marrakesh gloves are good but the tanning on the leather isn't... originally black yet turning to tan with exposure to sunlight. Again warm weather gloves.

  3. Great (Canadian?) design but since Klim moved production to China I don't think the quality is the same.

I have 3 of their jackets (Badlands Pro, Rally and Vented Rally) and 2 sets of trousers( badlands Pro and Traverse) but have recently had persistent issues with Badlands Pro trousers leaking.

All much more robust than BMW twat suits (and I have been using after the poor performance of my BMW Rally jacket overland to Ulaanbataar back in 2011), and they survive well in falls( an encounter with a barbed-wire fence whilst on my 701 Enduro bid however put on end to my Traverse jacket!) but I think next time it will be Rukka for me.

  4. Badlands Pro suit user for many years. No problems whatsoever and ridden in extreme Icelandic weather and didn't leak despite being over 5 years old at the time. Excellent vents on both jacket & trousers. Better vents than Rukka stuff.

  5. Had a couple of Klim jackets and pants over the years. Current is a Kodiak jacket and pants, very sturdy and well vented but haven’t crashed tested them. Watch out for sizing weirdness as the kodiak is very tailored and not kind to a beer gut/middle aged spread & if you size up it may end up baggy elsewhere. The badlands were a very box shaped ample cut but I think they’ve even slimmed them down on the current versions or at least the recent badlands pants I tried on were very limited in bollox space for my waist size and next size up was too baggy (around the gut) I’d have to have been trans’d to have worn them beyond the fitting room.

  6. Had their newly launched adventure jacket some years back. A special silicon or rubber front zip touring hot countries it just popped open riding along. Meaning that the protection the jacket provides would of been next to zero in an off. So after doing four thousand miles on a week round europe I got a full refund. Freaked me out so for me, klim is a no go'

  7. Klim are up there with Rukka and Halversons I believe.

  10. Just bought a Marrakesh jacket for Spanish tour this year.Very impressed with comfort and quality.Easily the most comfortable jacket I’ve ever had. Also got the Zephyr wind stopper ,also top notch. Both bought from Motolegends who I would also highly recommend

  11. Yep, another with a jacket here. Totally waterproof, no lining so another jacket under in winter. Lots of enduro type zips and vents

  12. Rukka had those zips for a while too, I had one on the Armas suit. It was a goretex product (Lockout) and they had to be lubricated to work well.I personally never had a problem, but I don't believe Klim used it long.

But I've had a Badlands Pro for around 8 years now and the jacket has been solid, trousers lasted 6 years before letting a little water in. Great for Alpine tours where one side is in sunlight and the other in shade as you can undo the vents on the go.

I also brought a cheap latitude around that time and used it for day trips and short commute. That cheaper non-laminate goretex material is okay but I use it for shorter rides and it wouldn't be my touring choice

Most recently I picked up a pair of the Marakesh trousers and was really impressed with the stretch fit and the way the material lets air through. Would have been nice to have a joining zip, but they are more casual summer wear than touring focused.

  13. Had the Klim Kodiac suit now and it's great, better fit than Rukka and more features too. Very comfortable from day one.

  14. Hi , How did you find the fit of the Marrakesh trousers I.e are they true to size in the waist ?

  15. Stadler/Touratech
    Hideout (custom)
    Rukka
    Klim

    in that order.

  16. Klim are in general a relaxed American sizing fit which I like for the leg and I currently wear a 36 in badlands and regular jeans.
I tried on my old 34 badlands and I can say the Marrakesh are slighly looser in the waist (like a fingers width) and the waist doesn't stretch like the rest of the material. For me the 36 Marrakesh were to loose and the 32 were a tight squeeze.

  17. Thank you

  18. I've used Klim stuff for enduro for years, probably the best stuff money can buy. They started out as a snowmobile clothing brand and ventured into bikes some time ago. Well made kit with great design features for whatever climate you want to ride in.

  19. While Klim gets excellent reviews, similar money gets made-to-measure BKS or Hideout textiles.

Recently, I visited BKS and Hideout to try their latest textile gear. Considering their spec looks similar on paper, they were very different (it warrants a longer post) from each other.

Also, I found they felt way ahead of Rukka in every way. As well as being considerably more protective, both British brands had clever details and better ‘quality feel’ than the Finnish gear.

@Mac I’m curious why you put Stadler above Hideout?

  20. Re BKS textiles. They have less and smaller, vents than my Klim Badlands kit. But Alison explained that in order to get certified they are very limited on size of pockets/vents etc.
