To say I'm 'schoolboy excited' is something of an understatement. On Friday I'm going to Bologna with a trip booked to the Ducati factory and museum. Does anyone who's already been have any tips to make the trip even more awesome? (If that were even possible.) Thank you
The Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena Short train trip from Bologna and good also for Balsamic vinegar Worth a visit although not as good as the Ducati experience.
I’m off in 3 weeks, so also interested in any tips, specifically decent not to be missed roads/ hotels.
Visited the factory and the museum in 2019 when we went over for the Mugello MotoGP. From what I remember, finding the correct gate to get in proved to be a challenge as the place is huge and the staff on the gates didn’t speak english. so leave a little extra time, just in case. Our party was taken around by a very knowledgeable and well informed young woman who made the tour for me. She took some pretty challenging technical questions in her stride and in extremely good english. Whilst not a problem for me, there was absolutely no phones or cameras allowed which pissed a few. The retail opportunities were not extensive. Andy
On the way to Modena for the Ferrari museum, you could do a little detour to the Lamborghini museum?!
Ha! Good idea but that might be a separate trip. I have a left-hooker (perfect for European roads) Maserati Ghibli 2.8 the '96 GT and have always fancied driving it to Modena and the Maserati factory, Ferrari and the famous museum (name escapes me).
When I have been Ducatis are allowed to park in the factory car park, everyone else has to find somewhere else. Whether that will be true on WDW I have no idea..
Girlfriend has a brother that lives in Bologna, he's in the UK at the moment and I met him the other day. A visit to the city is on the cards, probably next year. Keeping an eye on this thread as going there and not doing the Ducati museum isn't an option, the GF is well aware of this.
Nothing to do with Ducati, but while in Bologna, you have to try Ragu - the original dish that was morphed into spaghetti bolognese (by the Americans, I believe).
Can get very hot this time of year, not much around the factory so make sure you have plenty of water with you . Bologna is well worth a visit plus you have Ferrari and Lamborghini in close vicinity which is a must as you are in the area.
Bologna is the food capital of Italy which is a damn good reason alone to visit and it’s a lovely and very interesting place. has the oldest University in Europe.
It's an American invention. Ask for it in Italy and you will get blank faces. Now Ragu on the other hand tastes far better.
Quick update. Here now and bloody loving it. Haven’t been to the factory yet, that’s on Monday. Did a gastronomic walking tour of the city centre today and it was wonderful. The food is off the scale!
