I am restoring a friends 916 and whilst I have got new fairings for the bike the old ones aren't in bad nick. Plus I have discovered that they are the racing kind, i.e. they have a large carbon 'catch tank' underneath the side fairings. I am not reusing this as the fairings I bought do not allow that piece to be fitted. However n order to be n a position to offer these fairings to someone I need to get the front nose cone welded up as it has snapped across the top where the windscreen fits. Does anyone know where I can get this 'plastic' welded as it would be a shame to simple discard it? Anyone looking for a set of 916 'racing fairings' can also contact me. My contact details are 07710572463. Many thanks Peter
i recently repaired a honda fairing with a 'plastex' repair kit i bought on Amazon i was very impressed, very very strong too, you can grind out and reinforce cracks too
You can plastic weld yourself, it’s easy, a 25w soldering iron (costs about a tenner) is all you need. From this via this to this Weld on the reverse by pushing the soldering iron into the plastic at a 30-45 degree angle, go no further than halfway though the plastic. Pull it back, move 1/2 - 1mm away from the first ‘stitch’ and repeat and do on until you’ve covered the length of the crack. This is a different part, same colour but different bike. Once done, flip the plastic over, get a Dremel with a small burr type file attachment and cut a shallow channel along the now stitched crack on the outside of the plastic ie the exposed side. Only go 1/2 way through max again. Fill the channel with filler, sand down and respray.
