Hey everyone, I'm totally out of my element on this one, but I just received the USB cable for my rapidbike, so I can finally plug it in to my laptop. I will be doing this later tonight/tomorrow, and honestly don't know where to start, other than downloading rapid bike master program. Do I need to find a specific mapping for my bike with akra exhaust + baffles? Or it's just something that I adjust manually in the program? If someone could give me some pointers/walkthrough would be appreciated. Issue with my bike is that at 3-5k rpm sometimes I have really bad power dip, and riding in the city in the sport mode is quite difficult. The power dip almost feels like traction control kicking in, and gives very uneven power delivery. Another questions that I have is: since rapidbike makes adjustments from what I read every 100km, does that mean I shouldn't be switching between the different power modes (race/sport/wet), as that would interfere as to what the autotuner has adjusted itself to? Cheers
I just set my bike to race, installed the RB evo module to my 1299 and let it do its thing. After 500m or so, its apparently sorted. I took mine to 1,000m and then saved the map for future. Just in case. I have no dips and its quite good at low throttle, whereas it was a bit lumpier before. Ive not done anything since. Prob done +5k on it since. Its plug and play.
So you didn't even open it on laptop at all just plugged it in? I'm wondering if either the module itself is failing/not plugged correctly or something software-wise is not adjusted correctly. I suppose when I will open it, it will just have akra tuning that I can use and see how it goes
Yup, i fitted it and away I went to rack up the miles. It adjusts on the fly and its, apparently, sorted after 500m or so. I did install the software, but just so that I could save map. I intended to do the same with baffles in and save map. Then I could swap between them. But I never got round to fitting baffles. Full Ti Akra btw.
So the USB cable is just for you to be able to backup the settings and make changes to the configuration settings. It's constantly learning and if your battery goes flat on the bike, you will lose the settings its automatically built up over time. I leave mine 899 in Sport mode and it does its thing. I have the auto blipper as well, which means you get clutchless downshifts which is nice. There are lots of customisations in the software that you can adjust, but the defaults all work just fine. Its worth backing up the settings from time to time. You can then restore those settings, if you remove the battery for any reason and not have to wait 500 miles for auto learning again. There is also a 2nd 899 map specifically for the _full_ Akrapovic exhaust (IIRC), so that would be a better starting point but from what I've read it will adapt anyway. I had my Evo reprogrammed (you need the full software not the free version to do this) from an 1199 to an 899 at a cost of £35 inc postage. I can sare the contact name if you want to PM me. In terms of setup - Plug the USB cable into a Windows PC/laptop. It will ask for a driver, which is in the Rapid Bike directory Program Files directory - Once the driver is found it will show up in Device Manager. Connect the USB cable into the Rapid Bike harness. When you load the Rapid Bike software it will connect to the hardware on the bike (the bike needs the ignition on). This is all completey optional. It will work fine without it, assuming its programmed for the correct bike.
Cool thanks for the info. In fact I did have to swap out my battery as a lot of relays were fried. Maybe my issue is I haven't driven the distance yet to reprogram itself properly. Is there a way to tell if the rapidbike module is working while riding? Or have to plug it in for that?
Didnt know about the battery. Fortunately not had to disconnect mine, but I'll do another backup this weekend in light of this new info.
the manual states that you should do a minimum of 200km between accepting the auto adaptations, i would get the software and plug in your device, it will also update the firmware if it hasnt been done for a while. you can then check which map is loaded and also make your own backups if you change exhaust or remove the baffles etc
Is there a way to tell if the rapidbike module is working while riding? Or have to plug it in for that? >> When you plug the Evo in via the USB cable / software, you can see it has some stats that move around as you open and close the throttle (see attached). The Rapid Bike sits inline with your ECU, so it will be working, otherwise the cables won't join up and the bike won't start. A small piece of advice, when you run the cable behind the radiator, use the cardboard roll from the kitchen towel holder so it goes through easier! The large circular connector is a bit of a nightmare to access... I followed the PDF guide attached, not my work but very useful. FYI, the firmware on my Evo is dated 2021, so it has not been updated for about a year. Happy to help, I fitted mine myself, it's easy enough to do, but it takes a while to zip tie everything in to place and mount it...
Actually, scratch that. Just connected the laptop to the Rapid Bike and there's a firmware update from last month. I dont know what it fixes/improves, but an update exists... So well worth whlie connecting IMO
