Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Firebladeboy, Jul 23, 2022.

  1. Holy cr@p I just got some major sticker shock at the cost of my 45K mile service on my old Multi. Including new front brake pads, £1108!!!

Am I out of touch or is this a Bit Bloody Much!!??

  2. Pretty standard really, main dealer £1k - £1200, Indy and little cheaper at around £800? And then shims on top of that if it needs them?

But the 45k might involve a lot more than just the desmo service?

  3. In fairness to Riders of Bridgwater, their service was GREAT and the bike is running as sweet as a nut but I wasn't expecting a 4 digit bill.
45K included belts, brake and clutch fluid, oil and filter, coolant, spark plugs and (at my request) front brake pads plus required sundries. So yeah, the works
I was expecting 800 but 1100 was a nasty surprise!

  4. Just going through the bill...£60 for two Spark plugs (inc VAT). Really????

  5. Count yourself lucky it’s an old one otherwise that would have been 4 plugs :joy:

For Bridgewater that’s very fair, they quoted me similar money for just annual service, belts and brake/clutch fluid. I went to Moto Rapido instead.

  6. Everything else looks more or less reasonable but that's taking the p1ss a bit on the plugs!

  7.
  8. I bought the bike new from Riders (Cardiff actually - back in the day) so I've been keen to keep it FDSH and have religiously returned it there for servicing. It did stand me in good stead with Ducati when the electronics sh1t themselves at 21K and out of warranty. I only paid for labour to get it fixed and got about £1500 of Ducati parts (including new electronic rear shock and ECUs) thrown at it by Ducati.

Can I ask how much was the service was from Moto Rapido?

  9. £547

  10. What was their estimate for the 45k service & was it way off what they charged?
    Obviously a hidden question there...

  11. Holy cr@p! So literally half the price

  12. Yeah, and this is my bad, I didn't get a quote first. I just assumed it was going to be ballpark what I paid for the 30K service (which was done at Riders Cardiff before they closed). So I'm totally to blame for that aspect.

  13. Fair play - not good that they didn't think to give you an upfront idea of cost tho'.
I hate to say it but I suppose that they're too used to people just paying up...
    Ouch!

  14. £547 for a desmo service sounds super cheap …

  15. Yeah, I actually thought maybe they misunderstood what I wanted and assumed a desmo valve service? Moto Rapido quoted me "around £1000-£1200 for a desmo service (depending on if and how many shims needed) when I initially made some research enquires before I purchased the bike. Never got on to having one done as a Dacia Duster put pay to that :joy:

  16. It wasn't a desmo service, it was just annual + belts + brake and clutch fluid. I asked Riders for the same work and they said £1200

  17. understood :upyeah:

  18. Annual service isn't belt replacement is it? New belts every 15000 miles, along with Desmo service, no??

  19. No it’s not, belts should be done every 5yrs irrespective of mileage, mine was a late 2013 with 11k miles on it, I bought it in late 2019 from a Honda dealer who had taken it on trade in, the last service was 2018 and non dealer, tried to find out if belts had been done but didn’t get anywhere, so valve service not due for another 4K miles but belts possibly 6yrs old so I chipped the price £500 and got it serviced back with Ducati as soon as I got it.
