899 Rear Sprocket Hex Nuts

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Gabagool, Jul 22, 2022.

  1. Hello guys random question, has anyone had issues with the rear sprocket hex nuts undoing themselves?
I noticed they were lose, tighten them up before a ride on Saturday got back and checked yesterday when cleaning I’ve lost 3 of them!!
Any idea what’s caused this? They were really tight when I tightened them up

  2. Do you have standard nuts fitted? Do they have a locking function or require thread lock?

  3. It's a Ducati, EVERYTHING needs thread lock.

  10. We could lockwire you :p

  11. That would hurt.

  12. Really??? So they do not stop the nuts from falling off of the posts then???? Obviously you have no clue what you are talking about?!

  13. Haha, stupid you. yes offcourse they stop from falling off, but if thats the case, you would long see the tarmac before. Lockwire is there to keep any nut on torque. I think you need a lesson, or just ride around like you are Valentino.

  14. As @DucRider said, kept under tension to be effective.

  15. Thanks for clearing that up. I never knew that wire locking is to lock fittings in such a way that they don’t come undone? Only been doing it for nigh on 40 years! The whole idea of putting the wire lock on the posts is to stop a nut being thrown from the posts - not to stop the nuts from coming undone. If you read my original post, does it not say that I am indeed using thread lock to secure the nuts? The wire locking is just an extra safety measure.

  16. Lets clear things up, it doesn’t do anything more than just aesthetic bling, which is fine if you fancy that, but it doesn’t do sh.. as a safety. If a nut will come loose your rear sprocket will wobble like crazy and your nuts won’t be even close to your shiny lockwire. Cheers and enjoy your bike. Books closed.
