Clutch Bleeding.

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Adam Bell, Jul 24, 2022.

  1. Hi,

Out on my 1299 today and I think the clutch needs bleeding through.
Clutch all the way in and it feels like the bike is creeping forward.
Also when stopped in first you can't get it into neutral or second.

Does this sound like a clutch bleed issue.

How easy is it to bleed the clutch.

    Thank you

  2. It’s definitely a clutch drag situation. Whether simply bleeding the clutch circuit will rectify it or not can only be determined by actually doing it. it’s easy enough to do and I’m sure there are loads of videos on YT about it.

Just as an afterthought you haven’t recently done an oil change and put in thicker/heavier weight oil than recommended have you?

  3. Easy. My 1299 had this problem and my V4S currently has it too. All you need is an 11mm spanner and some rag. Carefully open the bleed nipple at the pump whilst maintaining a small amount of pressure on the lever. Squeeze the lever slowly until fluid appears. If you reach the bar with the lever before fluid appears, close the nipple before releasing the lever and repeat. I carry the spanner and some rag in the little cubbyhole under the pillion seat. Have to do this sometimes twice a day when out and about. The OEM pumps are very poor. Ask your friendly Ducati service agent about a fix for this. Apparently one is available.

  4. Thank you , it came with an oil change from the Ducati dealer but that is it. i will search the tubes and see what i can find out.

  5. Is the bleed nipple on the lever. so i know it sounds a bit thick

  6. One on the lever. One on the slave. Flush fresh fluid through the slave first (probably 4-5 full reservoirs) then finally bleed at the lever nipple.

  7. If it came with fresh oil from a Ducati dealer one should assume they used the correct grade of oil.

    However….. that raises other questions.

How long have you had it ?

Has it always done it, or just started doing it?

Depending on the answers to those, and assuming it’s got some sort of warranty with it, you may wish to discuss the issue with the supplying dealer before changing the clutch fluid yourself.

  8. Picked it up in January this year. i will look at the warranty side.

Started doing it a month ago.

  9. Buy an Oberon slave cylinder. Much better than the OEM ones, which are rubbish.

  10. Hi Raz, have you had the fix done by your Ducati service dept?
I’m about to replace my slave with an Oberon one and order up a master cylinder service kit from KTM.
    Cheers

  11. Waiting for the parts to arrive. Will be having it seen to shortly.

  12. Just wanted to thank you all for the help. all sorted, the lever had a lot of air in it and now it is fully presurised it feels perfect.

  13. The air comes back….
