  1. You were lucky it was a PD engine Ivor. More recent VAG stuff is expensively damaged (injector pump wrecked and injectors killed by the swarf from the pump) by the time it stops running. If you clean them out fully, without replacing parts, they will sometimes run for a while but sound and go like a black cab before they fall over again with more swarf from the pump in the injectors. North of £6k is a typical repair bill to put it right permanently for a 2.0 4 cyl.

  2. The fabia trundles on, just gone through 350,000; wife had it from new, original clutch, original exhaust.

  3. I filled up a nearly new 1198. In my defence it was 4am at Clacketts, I was tired and we were heading for chunnel. When I fired her up it was like someone set off a smoke bomb.

My mates wont let me forget this.

Edit: I just took tank off and emptied it. Clean injectors? Nope. I filled her up with proper fuel and then raced to catch them up in Franco. Took a couple more fill ups for the dregs to burn off, but the 1198 was perfectly fine.
