Fuel Lines On 1989 851

Discussion in '851 / 888' started by Joe Goodson, Aug 6, 2022.

  1. I am in the process to change the fuel lines, both from underneath the tank and the submerged ones inside the tank.

Can anyone suggest the best place to source them from? I wouldn’t want to buy the wrong ones and risk to set the bike on fire!!

    Thanks in advance :)
    Joe.

Mocal Is quality stuff, buy a metre of each and some Mikalor double ear 'O' clips for securing them

  3. Thanks guys. Appreciate the tips. I don’t want to start another thread but I am trying to figure out the following:

my 1989 has been off the road for 11 years. It’s in decent conditions and I have so far changed the oil, filter, clutch disks and a deep clean of pretty much everything.
Yesterday I managed to start her and she idled fine. I could also rev her (not over 3k due to old belts yet and neighbours) and she had no issues. She started to misfire and petrol poured from underneath the tank. Today I tightened the two hoses that go into and out the tank and it did not seem to leak. While idling though, it kept smoking from the engine bay and at some point I got scared it was catching fire. I still can’t figure where the smoke was coming from. I also don’t believe it was the old fuel as the previous start with the leak was 3 hours earlier and by then, the fuel on the engine casing would have evaporated.

I seemed to notice some light smoke coming out of the exhausts and some smoke coming from the rear cylinder, between this last and the exhaust connection.

wonder if I should keep her idling for longer and see if she still smokes and until what point.
