Rear Shock Bushes - 748

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Blah blah, Aug 14, 2022.

  1. Does anyone know or can you measure the size of the rear shock bushes for a 2000 748 please? And if you know where I can get some from, even better !

The bottom one needs to be replaced at the least (MoT advisory) and it'd be good to get some here before I start taking it apart.

I've tried a search on here / google but I can't find what size they are.

    Thanks

  2. I’ve got them in the past from an öhlins agent.

  3. I think he means the spherical bearings in either end of the shock which Ducati doesn't list. I replaced those in a 900ss that I used to have and also in a 2010 MTS1200 but had to get the bushes out first so that I could measure them then find a supplier.

  4. Yeah, I mean the bushes in the shock 'eye' - with the back wheel off the ground you can see the movement between the shock and the swing arm.

I hope that they aren't bearings in the shock as I had to change them recently in the linkage in Mito and they were a pain in the arse to do (and I broke my vice doing it)

  5. Before condemning the shock bearings check that the rocker bolt (14 in your diagram) is fully tightened, it should 75Nm. I had an ST4s which uses the same suspension arrangement and it too showed vertical movement of 2-3mm at the rear wheel. It turned out that the bolt wasn't fully tight and allowed the bearing and its sleeve to move slightly due to the clearance between the bolt and the sleeve. The few thou at the rocker was amplified by the suspension linkage to give much more play at the rear wheel.
Check also the needle rollers in the rocker and the rod ends the tie bar. A little play in any of these will show as much more at the rear wheel.
