Got myself a new ignition coil and mounting hardware. Trying to remove the old one that has turned into a rusty mess. The Allen bolt is stuck and I’ve managed to break an Allen key and then proceed to spin the hex notches, tried use vice grips and penetrant fluid to turn the bolt but it’s just taking metal off the outside of the bolt head, any ideas on how to get the bolt off without replacing the whole air box?
You could try driving in a star drive bit and seeing if that can get enough purchase to turn the bolt. Another option, which I have often found is less successful is to try drilling into the bolt and using a bolt extractor.
These work well as long as the head is a suitable size to grip. https://www.amazon.co.uk/BGS-Specia...19&hvtargid=pla-437090356468&psc=1&th=1&psc=1
I've done the Red998 method before when the bolt has let go. You'll have to sacrifice the torx bit but thats life. Soak the area in wd40'
i've been seeing them for years and written them off for as long. one of the lads bought a set last year. they have been getting us out of the S..t ever since. vvgood.
The complete set... BGS 5269 | Special Socket Set / Screw Extractors | 12.5 mm (1/2") Drive | 8 - 27 mm | 16 pcs. https://amzn.eu/d/awUCPud
Penetrating fluid, time, patience, penetrating fluid, time, patience repeat repeat. WD40 is not the best for penetrating, even their specialist penetrating version imo. I use Transyl Owatrol, always works for me but @finm suggested something the other day in another thread but I can’t recall what it was called.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions, please may you let me know if there’s any retailers in the U.K. that carry stock of deblock? I’m also going to buy myself a few torx bits to sacrifice, will hammer them into the remains of the bolt head to get some traction, unfortunately there isn’t enough space to get an extractor socket onto the outside of the bolt head due to the design of the coil. Will report back if I do or do not have success.
