That’s a question, not an angry rant There seems to be some confusion over different bike groups (I also have a BMW, Honda and Yamaha) regarding replenishing brake fluid and bleeding the brakes, with ABS. Some are claiming you can do it the traditional way, ‘squeeze lever, open nipple, oil+air bubbles out, close nipple, pump lever, open nipple…..’ and so on, but some say it can still trap fluid and air in the system? I ‘thought’ with ABS, they have an ABS pump and control module, normally closed (without power), so they need to be ‘active’ or opened to allow you to pump the fluid through? Or maybe dealers have special tools to do it some other way? If ‘special tools’ are needed please say. I’m sure you gods have done (or had it done) multiple times, any pointers would be greatly appreciated
I bled the 959 abs after swapping abs units. Didn’t notice it taking any longer then bleeding a non abs bike. But the dealer can cycle the abs for you to push any air out, if needed.
If you belive you have air in the ABS manifold, I was told to activate the ABS. Done it twice now, once on a Diavel and once on a Multistrada. Just involved a quiet piece of good tarmac, exceed 30mph and apply the front brake, hard. Repeat for the rear brake and yes, my rear brake works Andy
Hi, My M1200 has the same rear brake issues. I have bled the traditional way with no success, then I bled with a pressure bleeder no success. Today ,I used a vacuum bleeder which gave me enough brake to operate the abs a few times, a final bleed and I actually have a rear brake now. Yaaaay. I also noticed that the brake pad had worn a groove in the calliper and was sticking, so out with the dremel and sorted.
The first time I used a vacuum bleeder on my M1200 I sucked the reservoir dry. Oops! It is stupidly small.
