Howdy Ducati friends, I've found myself in a bit of a pickle. I purchased a 1098 from an older gentlemen who didn't know much about it's history. Fast forward a few months and I'm beginning to scratch my head over what I ACTUALLY have. The dash reads 1198 RACE SBK, the ECU says 1098 AND 1198 DP, It HAS DTC(Only came on R and later 1198 correct?), and it has an 1198 harness. It even has ohlins front/rear suspension and a black swing arm! Do I have an S, modded base model, or some Frankenstein 1098? How does this thing even run with an 1198 ECU? I would really appreciate y'all's 2 cents, I'm remarkably puzzled at this point.
For starters put the VIN through here https://www.ducati.com/ww/en/service-maintenance/recall-campaign
Sounds like it’s had a flash on ecu hence it says race. If the V5 says 1098, likley a bitsa….but sounds like the right bits
Post #19 shows the genuine dash start up messages https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/1198-mods.32004/#post-550967
Fellow enthusiasts, I have taken some pictures that could point me in the right direction. I failed to mention in my original post that the bike has a bazzaz fuel management system. Unfortunately I don't know much about this particular piece either Conveniently enough, the R/R went out the other day, so the snapping a pic of the ECU wasn't a chore.
You haven’t got Ohlins - just some stickers. The ECU has been reflashed to the 1198S 70mm full system map if the non genuine sticker is to be believed. The dash start up message has been edited as well.
Strange. It's odd that someone would go through the effort of forging something like that. Is it some cartridge and rear spring kit or something?
Rear is standard ohlins shock, not overly great tbh. Front forks are well sorted if a full cartridge kit. Looks to be a base 1198 with cheap ohlins shock and cartridge kit fitted up front
Ok thanks guys. So from what I've gathered I have a base model 1098 with a 1198 harness/1198 flash to allow the DTC to operate. Also, maybe other pieces of a base model 1198(swing arm, rear sus, etc) ? Still, I'm confused how a 1198 flash let's my 1098 engine run properly. Also, why have a bazzaz mapper if the bike already has a flashed ECU? Reason behind my idea is that the TC uses the stock Ducati stuff.
Showa on the fork bottom is a clue Someone has gone to some time and effort to up the spec to near 1198S standards. The Reg/Rec has been upgraded to Mosfet as well. The ECU is probably a compromise to get the DTC to work. Does it have the full system? If not this may have been removed prior to a previous sale. Does the bike have lambdas fitted? Also a clue that a Termi type system has been fitted. If the ECU has not been custom tuned then the Bazzaz may have been installed to get the fuelling somewhere near. If you can get JPDiag connected then the ECU may reveal more info. I always add my details and date flashed when working with ECUs. A bit of Googling suggests XBE8 relates to a 2008 1098 engine
I got the idea from a member on here for the reg/rec. The bike seems to like it! It has the entire stock DTC system. There's a piece in the tail and it has the front sensor. However, the dash gives me a DTC 8.0 code(guessing the front wheel sensor failed). It's weird too because it will let me enable DTC and choose the desired level. The lambdas are eliminated from what I can tell. It has "eliminator" plugs on the connectors. The bazzaz "self mapper" has what looks like a wideband connected to the exhaust though.
