Can anyone explain exactly how this works... I ring and ask for the price of a full service with belts on a 749R. They say £3-400, I asked if it was a set service so they said yes, at which point I asked why they can't give a more accurate figure, they said it would be at the 'upper end with brake/clutch/coolant' might be more, so I asked how much without brake/clutch/coolant, they said lower end. So I asked for an exact price, they said £385 without, at which point I asked how come it was £15 more for a full fluid change...... They then came back and said it would be more than £15 more but can't give an exact price. Now I got the feeling that they were just making prices/services up! My money has gone to G-tech even though italia moto are only 10 miles away. I'm worried that vague pricing might mean vague service and much pulling down of pants. Does this sort of thing happen to other people?
when i give a price for a job you hav to asume no probs will arise you try not to tie your self down to much in case sumits been botchd before but to be honest i generaly take the hit as long term custom is worth a lot more than an extra 20quid over quote.
Surely a 'set service' should be a fixed price, anything over thats needed will be in addition to? They're not going to find much wrong on a 700mile old bike are they
G-tec are sound people, always liked their attitude and fair open pricing. Always seen highly competent too.
Thats what I thought also. Can't wait to get the bike back on Tuesday so I can finally take it out I wasn't trying to save money or go to the cheapest, just getting a 'feel' for places. Looks like Gtech will have another regular customer now.
i would give Gtech the big thumbs up...... define what you mean by full service though, as i understood it a ducati 'full' service can include things like fork oil change and so on that really boost the price. You need to clarify what exactly you want add anything else that you trust them to find and then come up with a price. I would trust Geoff at Gtech! i couldnt say that about some of the more frequently mentioned dealers here........
A full service but not including supension fluid etc. I asked for exactly the same from every place I called. all engine fluids/trim levels set-throttle balance etc/new belts.
I'm from Leeds but I was visiting Lincoln last week. Called into Italia Moto for a browse. Terry behind the counter couldn't do enough for me and I only bought 2 'O' rings for the 999 clutch push rod. As we were leaving one of the staff spotted that my chain adjuster on my ST3 had not been tightened....... me rushing i'm ashamed to say! despite getting ready to close they brought my bike in sorted it all for free. .
The problem with giving a "fixed" price on a service means that it doesn't take into account when things don't go wrong, like having to shift a stuck bolt or noticing something that really needs replacing and which will add to the cost. My Hyper needed to have the exhaust probe bung drilled out as it was stuck fast - that meant removing the exhaust, drilling it out, refitting and the cost of a new bung. That's an hour's work plus the cost of a new bung, which could easily make the difference between a £350 and £400 service. Most dealers/garages are not out to rip you off, but on the other hand they also want to get paid for the work they do.
I didn't think they were still going, the old aprilia place? To be honest i've been asking around for the best places and they didn't get mentioned. It seems Cornerspeed and Gtech are the best from word of mouth and phone manner etc. @antonye, what I asked for as I put above is a fairly set price, excluding horrors. I shouldn't get many of a 700mile old bike
Of course, most places should know how much they would charge to do standard things such as changing belts, a first service, etc. Maybe you caught them on a bad day or when the regular phone droid was away!
I went in there to ask the same thing and they explained it a lot better. They have an hour rate plus parts. Service takes about an hour but it can take three hours to get the stuck bolts out to get to the bit they need. They did take three months to get me valve collets and never rang me so not the biggest fan but I guess that is the "joy" of Ducati
My personal opinion is that people have issues with bikes/parts of any model make because of the actual dealer they use, find a good one and it makes everything a lot easier.
Just to say that V Duo in Lincoln are indeed still going strong,i just had my bi-annual 999S belt service done there by top bloke Adam, very highly recommended. Phil.
Too far for me but spoke with Adam on numerous occasions and he knows his stuff, used to work at Italia Moto I think.
I called in at V Duo yesterday. Adam said he was quite busy but still found time for a chat and a cuppa. Top bloke as far as I`m concerned.
