  1. Hi all just new to this group and loving all the advice here. Probably been aske may times before but is there a paint code or powder RAL for the frame on a 1999 SPS? Mike

  2. Hey newbie
    Welcome into our mad house

Someone will be along shortly to help

  3. AFAIK no. I believe the frames were painted originally not powder coated. A good car body paint supplier should be able to match it or RS Paints but bear in mind RS will provide the paint as it was originally and yours will have faded with age slightly unless it’s been kept in a dark place all it’s life so the car paint match route might be your best bet.

  4. I have used RS Bike Paints to match the frame paint on a 93 900SL listed as satin bronze and its a good match but the 916 90s era gold frames weren't satin bronze and from memory that's what RS bike paints list for 916/996 gold frames. There is also the finish on the 90s 9*6 gold frame which is more akin to a rough matt rather than a satin paint and I recall someone saying it was electrostatically? applied (or some other weird paint application process) so iMO they are bloody difficult to
    1) get a good colour match for &
    2) even harder to get the same oem paint finish.
I've kept my eye on most if not all 90s era 916 gold paint frame/wheels repainting threads since way back when and I've yet to see a definitive answer to this!
*hopefully someone sees this as a challenge and provides a definitive answer other than get it matched by your paint(er) supplier (Yawn!) .
My current 916 has had its frame and wheels powder coated in a satin gold/bronze. its not bad but its darker than the baby poo gold the original had and a smoother finish to boot.

  5. Thanks Macca, I did read on another forum somewhere that powder coat RAL 1035 in matt is a good match
