Rev counter help needed.

  1. Hi.I have an import 748.the problem i have is that the rev counter says the bike is idling at 2000 rpm.took the bike for a ride yesterday and hit the rev limiter.

The thing is the rev limiter kicked in past 13000 rpm.

the bike doesn't seem to be idling that high.

it seems to me that the rev counter is displaying 1000rpm higher than it should.

It has mph clocks fitted and i have the original kmh clocks as well.

    Haven't had the bike long.

The bike came with the mph clocks fitted.

Where does the rev limiter normally kick in on a 748?

Perhaps i should swap back to original clocks?

    Thanks.

  2. I would re-fit the OE clocks to prove / disprove your theory. Sounds plausible if there is a CAN interface issue between the K & M clocks

  3. There is another thread on here with the same problem, he found a small screw on the rev counter that adjusted it.
Have a look under Superbiikes second page titled 996 sps rev counter reading high.

  4. There is a trimmer inside the revcounter which can be accessed from the base. It depends on what model you have as to what the bike will top out at. It also depends if you have any chip modifications that alter the cut out point to stop the bike over revving. After my re-chip the rev limit dropped by 400 rpm, which is sensible as it saves over revving occidentally and there is no usable power beyond a certain point.
