It's probably the battery. Despite what the optimiser says, it can only go on the fact that there's around 12V which just means the plates haven't buckled. There's not enough stored energy, Amps, in it to crank the bike.
Hi guys. Tried to fire up the bike by connecting the battery to the car one (mot running) but no luck. I then went on to remove the spark plug to inspect it and i found this on the side. Knackered and leaking. Also noticed rust on the battery connector. Could they might be affecting it as well?
First picture appears to be the oil breather - very unlikely to affect starting. Rust on +ve connector - doesn’t appear excessive but you could disconnect and clean up with emery cloth.
Is it cranking quicker with the car battery on and not starting or just the same as without. I still suspect the battery is borked completely and isn’t giving you enough amps even with added car battery. Take a look at the other starter lead connections whilst you’re there.
on the bottom picture, on the positive terminal, the top connector looks non-standard, is this for an alarm or is it for a charger connector port? hopefully it's possible to follow it along until you can see where it ends. i'm only asking because it might be relevant particularly if it's an alarm, because even a partially disconnected one can still cause problems.
also, how were the spark plugs? I'm guessing you might struggle to get the rear one out which is understandable.
On the note on sounding like a total douche, haven't done that for 2 reasons. 1) No time due to having an available window when the kids were sleeping after lunch. 2) haven't checked where the spark plugs are located tbh. Bike sounds the same with the car battery try. Unsure about Alarm as was pointed out mainly due to only having the standard ducati on it which I reckon is the immobiliser. I am only at the beginning of this learning journey so please bare with me
Well well well. Don't know where to start, but basically water got into the engine via the exhaust in the form of ice melted after it snowed. That caused obviously the engine not to start. Somehow water got into the fuel system too. Had to change a few bits and bobs and Took the opportunity to do the desmo service as well and now the bike feels like never before. Just need to replace the servo exhaust eliminator now and that's it. Thank you all for helping out trying to narrow down what was my issue with the bike
