Hi all, another one of our bikes is coming up for sale and I wondered if you could offer some input on potential value ? I don’t know if ‘what’s it worth’ posts are allowed but hopeful I’ve not broken any rules. Copy of advert below, I would be grateful for any advice on how to price for a reasonably quick sale so I can advertise it on here properly. phots taken today of bike running etc. For sale is my late wife’s 1998 Ducati 748. The bike has covered 22k and was serviced with belt change 950 miles ago in August 2021 at Fastlane motorcycles in Tonbridge. I have no other service history or paperwork other than last service detail’s listed above and the V5 in my name. The bike comes with 2 keys. The body work on the bike is from my 996 I bought which was a little tatty, hence odd marks here and there as pictured. When we bought this 748 from Fastlane Motorcycle is originally came with full carbon fibre bodywork, which I swapped onto my 996 and put the red bodywork on my wife’s 748, red being her favourite colour ! Modifications off memory are as follows Front axle sliders Carbon fibre rear under tray Carbon fibre number plate holder Carbon fibre swing arm cover Carbon fibre hugger Carbon fibre clock surround Ohlins rear suspension Quick release sprocket carrier Oberon slave cylinder Full 50mm exhaust with Ali Termignoni end cans Recent battery MOT until August 2023 Bike not been used for 4 months since just before my wife passed away, as such it’s being sold as a project bike that will need going over and sold as spares/repairs. I make no promises other than it starts, runs, rides and was ridden frequently by my wife until her passing on her other Ducati. Come and do your checks and decide if it’s for you or not. Many thanks I do not know condition of rockers, I do not know when/if desmo service was done, I don’t really know much more than listed above.
Impossible to value on here for anyone who has read your thread. But it has some nice bits. Honest answer is stick it on eBay with a reserve and let the market decide. Best in March or April. Personally I would like to own it.But I would turn it into a track only bike. Regardless. Very best and GLWS
My ‘97 748B that’s almost stock, also with 22k miles, has SIL carbons plus original exhausts in a box, and a sachs shock from an E - I won for about 4500 on eBay. Good luck.
Thank you, totally understand people will be a bit sensitive to this post or bike, as am I. I want to put it on eBay and the likes for it to sell for whatever people perceive it’s value, but I don’t know what’s a realist reserve. Im not after top money, I don’t know of anything wrong with the bike, we rode it up until we MOT’d it last august and then stopped after she got her 848. All the ones on eBay are advertised for 5k+ and seem to be in decent order. This one needs one mid panel painted and the lack of service history prior to me buying it and having it serviced probably puts most off so nothing overly comparable at the moment Sounds a nice bike for a great price. I would be expecting a little less for this one if I’m being real with myself. Naturally I would like as much as I could get, but I am no fool so understand it’s worth a little less in my mind While probably a fair estimation to some, it won’t be going anywhere for that money. In my mind I had 4k ish as a guide but again happy to be dictated to by the market. thank you all for your input so far. I will try find more comparable bikes or hang on to the warmer months and fling it on EBay Regards Slingy
EBay reserve at £4000 sounds ok as a start - you can always change it later. Are the 996 decals lacquered over? If not I would remove them and leave blank or order 748 ones from The Image Works. I think the 996 fairings on a 748 reduces the chance of people bidding. EDIT. You could also get a price from We buy any bike as a start point for the reserve.
The seat unit ones are lacquered on I think but they are tiny. The main fairing ones in pretty sure are just eBay decals which will peel off. I didn’t want to take them off before in case i swapped them back over , now that won’t be happening you make a valid point. just means new set of pics which is a pain haha.
This was a difficult read - I'm so sorry for your loss. Look to 'real Spring' to list on ebay which is as good a place as any to gauge a market. Your late wife's bike may not satisfy the lengthy tick-list certain buyers prefer but it's certainly no "accident with the accessories catalogue" either! This fact and the truly horrific prices Audi now levy for spares will stand you in good stead as you search for "fair value". The very best of luck.
