Hi, I have an 848 2009 and i need to replace the gasket on the starter motor as its leaking oil, i can not find any 848 info on removing the starter motor, i was hoping someone on here has removed there starter motor and could give me an idea of whats involved please, many thanks
The first part of this video shows the process to get access to the two Allen head bolts for the starter that are inside the case.
You need to remove the alternator case on left hand side first. This allows access to the attachment bolts that are removed from LHS. You likely need to drain the oil but it can be done, at a push, without draining.
I've leant a bike over on a mattress before to avoid draining the oil... (No need to go to horiz...just 45°)
I changed my sprag on a1098 you don't need to lean it over very far to remove the alternator cover without losing oil
Just doing this on a 851. I don't know what kind of gasket is used on a 848, but the paper one is a pain. You need a puller for the cover.
