Painting Fairings

  1. Quick one I hope.

Aside from the usual prep, if I paint fairings, am assuming I’ll need etch primer and a friendly paint type?

    TIA

  2. Not an expert by any stretch, but I was under the impression that etch primer was for alloy and aluminium.

  3. You can get plastic primer

  4. I use, u-pol plastic primer adhesion promoter, then a plastic primer before painting as normal. As the royal maharaja says etch primer is for alloy parts.

  5. On my KTM 790 for the plastic on the front I used Halfords Plastic Primer, it would really depend on the age of the fairing as to the suitable primer to use.

When I had my 851 painted they just used primer on the existing paintwork as etch would have been too aggressive and may have reacted negatively.

Etch is usually for bare metals not previously coated surfaces afaik.
