Hello all . Don't post much on here but like reading threads and learning from you all . One question is though will a 1098s front radial brake fit on a Ducati 916 as a upgrade . Asking first because I know you will have the answer . Thanks Paul
That’s a fairly big question. The brake will fit if you have: - correct fork bottoms - if you aren’t fitting new bottoms to the forks you have, this could require using forks off a different model with radial brake provision - this would likely require new wheel potentially - then you would need suitable offset discs Just re-read the question… Do you mean a radial master cylinder?
If by 'brake lever' you mean the whole unit inc the master cylinder, then physically yes. But there will be ratio differences and I don't know if the 1098 one has a suitable ratio for the 916's 40mm or 65mm callipers. The ratio concerns the masters piston and the callipers pistons. Someone more knowledgable will pop by and confirm either way. This thread has some useful info https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threa...-cyl-bore-size-piston-size.13943/#post-209992
I fitted a Brembo RCS19 radial master cylinder to my 916. Calipers were 748R 4 pad axial type. Worked really well.
I'm not sure if I've fully understood the original question ..... but if it's about the ratio of fluid pumped by the master cylinder compared to fluid pushed into the caliper , it shouldn't really make that much difference . Even with a pair of 4-pot calipers , the quantity of fluid needed to move the pads from their rest position to fully pressed onto the disk is actually very small , compared to the total amount of fluid in the system . The feel at the brake lever may be slightly different , but the brakes should still work fine .... .... but that's just my 2 pesos worth
