Afternoon all - had intended to fit a new clutch pressure plate recently on the 996. However one of the allen screws is totally seized solid. Any recommendations on the best way to remove without causing any damage? Cheers
Unless there is a corrosion problem compounding things, they are never that tight or hard to undo tbh so I would soak with your favourite penetrant spray and seek out a slightly oversize allen tool that's a more "snug" fit if possible. I don't know if you are dab hand with a gridstone but if you can find an old Allen key that's slightly oversize you can carefully grind a shallow taper so it's an interference fit, just don't be tempted to hammer in with a massive amount of force though. Equally, I wouldn't try an impact driver here either, as a little fragile from standard. A bit crude, but sometimes even a pair of waterpump pliers applied to the spring outer diameter is enough to loosen the screw here, if you think you can still get any purchase on the hex in the cap-head then you can try this at the same time as revolving spring anti-clockwise. Unless corroded or something unusual then there is a good chance that this will work. Not cheap, but loads of alternatives if you go down this route:-
As @Chris says - I think the workshop manual states tightening torque to be 5Nm (otherwise known as "just nipped up"!).
If you have a (DIY) soldering iron, heat the head of the bolt. Hopefully the expansion on heating and contraction on cooling will weaken any corrosion. Andy
Penetrating oil (not WD40) and time and patience are your best friends here. @Chris do you have a link to the extractor set please ? It looks useful (and sturdy).
Amazon is one Paul - around £31. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-Tools-6845-Damaged-Extractor/dp/B071P2KZLF
