Strangely (!), this came up on my playlist last week and I happened to listen to some of the lyrics…is it about a young groupie lady? Not sure if this would be acceptable to some of our more modern types…
According to Wikipedia I think the nearest we can say is the lady in question slept around a lot. I assumed it was about a hooker, but it isn't clear any money was involved. Given they were on the music scene she might well have been a groupie. Recap: It's come back to me why I thought it was about a hooker. "I spent my money and I took my turn". But that seems like artistic license given the aforementioned article. Apparently it was originally called 'Prostitute'. That may have been a little vindictive. Young men, eh! Let's not get into Led Zeppelin in L.A.
I’m fairly sure the single started with the Police bells sounding on the intro unless that was the album version. Might be I’m getting old and mis remembering but if it wasn’t then it should have been. Which may explain why it’s playing in your head whilst on your motorcycle or you are actually being pursued for ‘tearing along the dotted line’. After a ickle bit of research found the version I remember it being.
