V4 Pikes Peak

  1. Just seems a lot of money rich for something that potential will do more damage, the span of that bracket also makes it weak.

I’m going to call Gerry @ evotech tomorrow and see what he says.

  2. Anything more than a topple over at near standard still, I can't see what damage they would prevent..mine tipped over in a petrol station (my fault) and the things that touched down were the pillion peg, both upper and lower side panels and the handguard. The lower side panel took most impact. I fitted the Ducati engine guards soon after.

  3. Yeah, have a chat with him and see what he says. I can’t see Evotech developing something that could potentially cause more damage, they’d be crazy to.

  4. Seeing them in the flesh, I’d say they would definitely protect the engine, and should prevent the panels from touching down. The handguard still would, probably the peg, but that should fold up anyway. It would be good to see some development videos, to see what is fully protected.

If I didn’t have a bad back, I’d get some extra carpet and lay the bike down in the garage, to see exactly, but there’s no chance I’m trying that right before a trip!

  5. All crash bungs bolt to something, unless they bolt through. If the impact is heavy enough, they can potentially cause more damage than they prevent.

Twisted frames, broken engine mounts and yes, cracked cases.

Worth remembering that a load of Gen 1 RSVs got written off because the rear brake lever would dent the frame if you dropped the bike. So nothing is perfect.

Good for tip offs and overs. Anything more and you’d claim on the insurance?

  6. Even the Ducati engine guards bolt to the engine.

I suspect the Evotech ones are designed to bend and absorb any impact that way. Nothing will prevent a sliding bike from damage.

The pillion peg hanger prevented my exhaust from taking a fair bit of the impact.

  10. Evening all,
I'm picking up a PP next week but only have a day to get used to it before off to the Eiffel forest, Nurburgring and then Assen.
Any tips or shortcuts to get used to it before I go.
Coming from a 1200s dvt & only ridden big twins for the last 15 years.
I'm only 5' 8" so any tips for the vertically challenged . I've ordered a Ventura rack as I'm so used to the bags - might be tempted to get a top box time permitting

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

    Cheers

  11. get a low seat. At 5ft 8 you will need it.

  12. Might not have time - I'll try a few dealers tomorrow to see if they can get me one
    Cheers

  13. Does it not have the suspension lowering do da thingy when your stopping or going slow

  14. Don't think the Pikes Peak does. Mine is a V4S

  15. I'm OK on my 1200 - can touch the floor with both feet - is the v4 much taller

  16. It's taller though its nowhere near as top heavy. You will almost certainly be OK unless you stop on a camber.

  17. I'm used to picking my stopping points - ride all the time with a mate who's chuffing 6' 3" - just stops anywhere - twat

  18. As someone said, lower, heated seat. IMHO, more comfy than stock too. But if you can't get it on time, at the very least make sure the stock seat is in the lower position.

How will you handle the run-in service? Sounds like you'll blow way past the mileage whilst on the trip - and the rev limit is very limiting on a fun tour.

  19. I'm picking up a used one - done 1k miles so hopefully it'll be run in - hope it has been
