gear indicator on 916

  1. has anyone fitted a gear indicator on their 916, which type and was it easy to fit etc??

    looking to get one for the trackbike.

    Don't really know but I reckon one the GiPros or possibly Acumen would do the job. I have a GiPro on a 1098.

    They need a pulse source from the engine, usually RPM pickup to ECU or possibly LV side of a coil and a pulse count for the speed, if you have an electronic speedo then the pickup from that can be used, if not you can buy various types of pickup, some use magnets other Hall effect. The wheel's speed is measured as pulses either from a designated pickup or using the brake rotor bolts.

    Other connections are a +12V feed and an earth. I think the Acumen's also require hooking into the Neutral light as well.

    All they do is compare the ration of wheel pulses to engine RPM, which is fixed for a given gear ratio. With mine it can initally be fooled but comes good in a second or 2, mine is not instantaneous but is quite quick. Fine for me as I use it for the road.

  3. Id be interested in knowing what people are using tool. I was looking at the acumen one, but on ebay you can get an entire replacement cheapie ala china speedo with shift lights, gear indicator and everything under the sun for less money.
