Yeah but x5 beemers are thirsty too and not in F1 territory . I dont get much more than 20 mpg out out my 9R, and I would be disappointed if I did, The sports bit category about my riding style, and bikes/cars , out ways the consumption questions that others may seem important . Long live the V8 and a proper sports bike .
Been reading with interest. My 750/900ss seemes to return over 50mpg, and that was with either engine in, I don't consider myself to be someone who hangs about, but at a 'cruising' speed, why not knock it into a high gear? On a run to Wales last year with a Multi, a 900ssie, my modded 750/900ss and a pair of restricted 400s (SV and NC21) We were all filling up at the same time, and the multi was the heaviest drinker by a long way doing mid 30s mpg. Mine was a little better than the 900ssie, can't remember what the NC21 did, but the SV400 was returning about 70mpg. I got 32mpg out of my Triumph TR6 (injected car) on a run to Goodwood recently, and my 997C2 seems to do between 28-30mpg. Oh, and the diesel Polo I run to work does about 55-58mpg.
Bit more info its a 1200S tourer bog standard, trip indicates 44.3. I was just interested to see what others were getting, must change up more often.
low 30 mpg on mine average after 15k miles typically fuel up about 23 quid soo....15k divided by avg 110miles per tank = 137 fillups * 23quid = £3,100 quid fuel or £200 quid fuel cost for 1000 miles (have got it down to 28 mpg but thats silly consistent warp speeds) bugs
Holy crap-I'm never going to whine about Premium Unleaded here in Australia again. We're paying a quid a litre for the primo juice.
Multi 1200 I've done that one to death. My computer ALWAYS shows about 8% optimistic. Unsurprisingly, this is the same margin (the official 8%) as the speedo is optimistic. Ergo, the computer must be using the inflated speedo figures for its calculation. I've got used to it and can now do a fairly accurate mental re-calculation. After allowing for the 8% optimism, the computer is surprisingly accurate. My average , mixture of solo and two up, is between 40 and 41 mpg. Best for normal riding has been around 45. The panniers seem to cost a bit of extra fuel - maybe 1 mpg. Fitting the FAT DUC O2 eliminators surprisingly made no difference to mpg. Using 98 octane fuel is just throwing your money away. It makes no difference whatever to mpg or performance. The Multi 1200runs perfectly on 95 octane, The factory would not have dared list 95-98 octane if it did not run perfectly and safely on 95.
Here's just that. Came back yesterday from a 1900 mile trip in Europe. I was riding in a group of 7 bikes so we stuck to around 130kph on motorways and sadly our trip involved a fair bit of that due to the mileages involved to get to places like Colditz caste. Anyway, there was also a fair bit of country roads as well as the occasional spirited ride and a "brisk" ride back from Ashford to S Wales yesterday. The MPG shown on the trip computer was 52. calculated this morning at 49. I'm happy with that!
MTS1200S - based on the computer, worst I have seen is 24 mpg (track day at Snetterton), best is 59 mpg (6th gear, 70 mph, steady speed). Average in mixed use around 40 mpg. Top-ups confirm this is about right. High fuel consumption in Sport mode is perfectly acceptable to me. But in Urban mode, I think it ought to be much more economical - yet it isn't. This is disappointing to say the least, and Ducati have missed a trick here.
thats very good...49mpg at 130kph/80mph...I find Delilah starts getting really thirsty over 70mph, and only manage about 44mpg (calculated) 50mpg on the dash at country road speeds of around 50-60mph...perhaps i have a heavy right hand!
At an indicated 110 mph it was showing an instant economy of 37 mpg  Somehow I doubt that's correct!!
I got 37mpg avg when I had the cat box/ standard exhaust on....now with decat pipe I get 44mpg... If the previous post is correct then your indicated 37mpg should be around 32mpg actual at 110mph....that's shit poor....and will lead to more arguments from the tree huggers....
I'm well happy with the mpg I'm getting from the MTS. I used to own a CBR600RR - that used to do about 36mpg on a good day!!
I can empty the Triumph Sprint's 21 litre tank to reserve in under 100 miles when I put my mind to it. It works out at something like 24mpg. But I can't be upset with that; to get the same thrills on 4 wheels you'd be lucky to make double figures. But economy is becoming an issue with me now. Money's getting tighter, and I like to put in big miles in the summer. Trouble is I like to thrash my bikes, and no-one offers economy figures for when you're tanking it...
I've just calculated my 848's fuel consumption for the first time and it managed a fraction over 50mpg! This was over a mixture of motorways and twisty stuff, all at the legal limit (ish) and way way more than I thought it would be. Makes it even better value taking it in to work each morning rather than sitting on the train - £20 in petrol v £55 in fares. No contest.
