Not on my 848 im pleased to say. I use a Honda CB1300 for the 100 mile daily commute to work. I've got a titanium Akrapovic end can and the springs are starting to wear through the hooks on the end can and link pipe. A couple have started pulling through the hook and one has started pulling through the spring itself. Of all the exhausts I've had over the years I've never seen this before. But then I've never put 35k miles on a bike and exhaust before. I'm no metallic element or welding expert but I'm assuming that the hooks welded to the titanium sleeve are not going to be titanium too? So I should be able to get a welding professional to weld some new hooks on and get some new springs?
The hooks are indeed Ti, your man should be able to build up the missing part, sadly Ti rods for TIG carry a high cost, not easy to weld and requires some skill and understanding of the material.
Cheers Arthur. Bugger. I'll start ringing around before it pulls all the way through. Id have thought the steel spring would have given way to the titanium hooks on the sleeve. But not so. New springs are £6 each too.
People assume Ti is harder than SS often not the case (depending on grades for the fussy), tbh any two materials that rub like a spring and clip with added dust, dirt and water etc will wear through in time, it's not a big deal mate for someone setup for Ti TIG work, there is an add on eBay for Akra repairs etc.. some fabricators will shy away from Ti, they will need to know the material as if mixed with the wrong type of weld the Ti just cracks and falls apart!
Fair point. Now i think, I recall being told My titanium wedding ring wouldn't be as strong as say aircraft grade ti, else the emergency services wouldn't be able to cut it off. Ill start asking around for a Ti TIG set up chap local to me, if I can.
I thought Id grab some rods but I changed my mind...lol Choose from our Extensive Range of Titanium Tig Wire . Welding Machines, Equipment & Supplies from Rapid Welding
Takes a look at the Ti section on Jody Collier's site here Welding Titanium Tips and Tricks As Arthur says Ti is not for beginners but plenty of useful tutorials on Jody's there and a ton of info from a Pro welder hope this helps
