Had a great track day yesterday at Donington and all thanks to Focused events. I cant ever really fault them, I've done loads of days with them and to be fair Barry and the team run a tight ship and the vast majority of the time things run well.......unless you get a few Knobs , who then proceed to get found out quickly by the instructors or the kitty litter anyway Anyway the reason for the post is because yesterday was the first time I've ever had the GPS thing mounted to my bike and it worked a treat for the intended purpose although Im not sure they use it for this all the time? Basically everybody turned up in the morning and was given one, me and a couple of mates were put in group 2 which we kinda thought was odd as usually we're in 3 or sometimes 4 but we didn't moan as track time is track time. During the briefing everybody was then told we'd run 2 sessions in the morning and those times would get analysed and the 'new' groups would be arranged to make sure all riders were running as similar pace as possible and they'd stick the new group sheets up on the garages at lunch. We all got moved up to 3 and it was soooo much better I kinda wish that happened every time. Everybody in the group was running a good pace, nobody was too slow and holding up proceedings and those who were really 'on it' were great to latch on to and battle with whilst learning a thing or two. Honestly its one of the first trackdays in ages i've actually had thumbs up and 'that was fun' nods from other riders on the slow down lap, always seemed to be little pockets of equally paced riders each session all having a good old fashioned rip around and enjoying it. Seemed to make everybody happy as its just leveled out the groups to the proper skill level and kept the pace just right. Great day. PS - if you were the chap in the garage with the 996 and sharing it with your mate i just wanted to say thanks very much for the wire cutters at the end of the day to get the GPS things off..... as you could probably tell we don't come prepared
Yeah, the chrono system does work. Me and a couple of mates did Portimao last year with FE using chrono system. We were running in group 2 which seemed a fairly quick group (for me) and we were told there was only 4 seconds a lap difference between the quickest and slowest of the group. As you say, everyone runs at a close pace and you don't get bunched up. Deffo paves the way for better track time.
...ask them at the DUK day Guessing as long as you don't know the times, its not 'timed' in the sense it makes you ride harder to beat
