Hi all - I'm getting round to changing the air filter. The handbook says I need to remove the fuel tank/seat to do this but I came across a recent article that claims you only need to remove the front nose and side fairings to access the filter. Which is correct? The other question would be can people recommend a quality replacement filter? I was considering K&N but have read some negative contents which may or may not be accurate. Thanks for any advice.
You do have to remove the whole tank unit to get access unfortunately Ian, and best get the tank close to empty before you do it, just to help. If your tank has expanded (I would guess 80% plus have by now) then don't be alarmed when the tank body catches on the rear frame crossmember, just behind the fuel pump assy aperture - it even helps to take out one of the fuel pump assy fixings, as this is the first thing that touches. Nothing wrong with fitting a K&N air filter but do a spark plug colour check just as a precaution as will run very slightly leaner as a result, but I have fitted 3 to my bikes and all three were fine.
