Hey, I have come across a small but slightly annoying problem with the bike. It’s got very annoying squeak what I believe is coming from the swing arm mount joint. I guess it’s because it sat for years with out use. Question is can this swing arm bolt be removed for some Grease with out to much of a strip down? Just curious if it’s a half hour job or a full on bike to bits. I don’t want to attempt to remove it if the swing arm is under some tension and it drops or rotate up causing more problems. I have read that they can be some what a pig to remove if rusted. Thanks you kindly.
Mine came out of my 996 easily, can't remember what I did but there were no dramas, think I supported the engine then removed the bolt, lifted frame off engine, I was taking the engine out, but the swing arm bolt can get stuck with corrosion as you suggest
Thanks for the reply It looks straight forward enough but didn’t want to go at it without a little knowledge of what to look out for. Sometimes the easiest task takes a turn!
No need to support the engine. Leave on the side stand, remove the nut on the R/H side and spray in some penetrating liquid. Try to get some of the good stuff like Plusgas or similar. Plenty in and tap the pivot with a suitable drift. More penetrating fluid and continue til the pivot starts to move. GL!
Thank you kindly. I’ll be attempting tomorrow and I’ll spray some fluid in tonight to let it soak in.
Whatever the cause, it sounds like something isn't lubricated that should be! Possible future corrosion/seizing issues that need investigation (now!)
