My bike came with two air boxes, carbon and what I believe to be the original in picture? Were the air intakes carbon on 1997sps or standard plastic jobs ? Having bit of trouble with indicator fixing on carbon intakes and contemplating going back to stock, but have nice race sock filters on at moment.
The holes for indicators are pretty chewed and expanding well nut sometimes pulls through. Just manged to get it back in fairly securely and have used some black electrical tape for extra hold.
I was thinking about larger plastic washer before expanding nut, to try and stop pulling through so easily?
I made the mistake of using Loctite on a bolt going into a rivnut and the same thing happened to me. I don't think there's much you can do once the hole is too big for the M6 rivnut. Drilling them out can make the hole size even bigger.
After a bit of research I've discovered that the 97sps had plastic airbox and ducts. The carbon didn't go on till 98
just be careful when you drop it off, as he does take his time.......you'll have a skinhead haircut at the beginning and when you collect it you'll have the full hippy look. Always good coffee at this place with good converstion. #Quality has no timeframes.
I can look at knocking up a small 3d printed insert to fill the specific diameter of your duct, with the correct diameter at the back.
Not sure what I'm going to do yet, might get some plastic air ducts and put original airbox back on. Other than stubble levers she'll pretty much as standard then.
Should be an easy repair, hopefully the indicator will hide any bodging! As an aside, I have carbon intakes on mine from QB carbon. A couple of years after buying them I managed to break one - it pulled the indicator mount out. I took it back to QB carbon with a view to buying a new one but they offered to repair it, when I returned to pick it up they didn't even charge me and you can't see the repair so a big to QB. You could always blank the indicator holes and fit some mirrors with indicators in them - you can get OEM looking mirrors with indicators in the front. I had a plan to do this once I even bought the mirrors but never got round to doing it.
