We Buy Any Bike .... Mwahaha

  1. This isn't a disguised what's it worth, or for sale post. It's a recent (this week) experience story.

I didn't use my Multistrada last year except to take it for MOT, a total of 2 miles lol. It isn't owing me anything and its just sitting in the garage on trickle charge in case I get moved to take it out. Its insured and tested but Sorned. If I want to go out, I'd just tax it online and its good to go within minutes

I got a tentative email through from We buy any bike, so I thought well maybe - I can always buy another if I want one so filled in the form:

    2015 Multistrada DVT
    Just under 14K
    Full service history
Showroom condition (really - its unmarked)
    Belts done about 2K ago
    new tyres
Full matching luggage inc top box

I didn't mention the other bits I have fitted, Arrow end can, damper, Puig screen, nav and other stuff. Or the new Touratech (unfitted yet) crash bars and fog lights. I thought if the offer was half reasonable, I could sell those on separately.

    Their valuation came back at

    £3.5K !!

They are having a fking larf. That bike would go out of any showroom for £6/6.5K without hanging about long. It needs for nothing.

I dont need the money, I am not chasing another bike (I have another bike anyway) but I would store it uncovered at the bottom of the garden in the rain before give it to those w$nkers for 3 and a half :D

I guess they make their money from hitting peeps that may have financial woes with lowball offers that may get the seller out of short term trouble. That is disgusting. Luckily I am nowhere near that position

IF I were to sell it, and its way too much trouble for me to make a realistic attempt tbh, I would want around £5K without the goodies or I will just leave it where it is. I reiterate, this is not an attempt to solicit a sale :)

I hope none of you guys ever get into financial straits, but if you do - avoid WBAB like the plague. Everyone needs to make a living and businesses have to make a profit - but they just take the piss ;)

  2. They gave me a good price on my 2020 BMW S1000RR. It all comes down to what they think they can sell at what price with how small a risk. If they think it won't shift (experience or already have too much stock) or will have expensive problems to sort before selling they will aim low. The first quote is computer generated and they will often go up from that initial estimate if they want your bike. I think they came up around £1.5k on mine before I agreed to let them have it.. They are there to make a profit (from what I have seen around £2-3k ish per bike), so they don't see the market for yours at much above £6-7k.

  3. I knew a guy that worked for them and did the pick ups. His base salary was quite low but his bonuses were based on how much he could drive the seller down from the quoted price by finding any fault or mark. He would chuckle at some of the deals he negotiated
He took 50% of any reduction he could bargain out and almost always found something. You are not guaranteed the amount they say and it can be subject to an 'admin fee' depending on how you want paying and how quickly. (by the way, mine was not computer generated, it did come from a manual intervention)
The point is, they are preying on people who may be in financial trouble, that is the part I find offensive. They purport to be ' your friend'. They are certainly not that.
I am fine money wise, I can genuinely afford to leave the bike sitting where it is and use it or not as the whim takes me. The additional space might be nice but its not essential.
Not everyone is in that position.
IF you need to sell, I would advise making WBAB your very last resort ;)

  4. I had the same experience as you. They low balled me then when I told them what i was looking for, then raised their offer for it to be enough in the middle to make a deal i was happy doing.
    Quick and easy.
He did try to knock me down a bit for not having the mirrors when he showed up but i told him i was happy to walk away and as if he was going to leave empty handed so the deal was done.
No worse than a standard dope you *can come across in a private sale tbh.

  5. Yeah catch 22 - spoke to them about 2 bikes previously.

On my R6, they actually gave me more than I had been offered on trade in, guy turned up and only one "mark" he tried to knock me down on but got pretty much what the offer was

On the R1. Offer was good, turned up and wasnt anything on there I hadnt told them about but he was an arse from the first second he turned up, offered less but I said no thanks and packed it away before he even finished his call as wasnt wasting my day on him.

So, one good, one bad. Like you say, didnt need the money both times would of just been easier to part with 1 before getting the new one ETC due to limited garage space. Ended up keeping the R1 in the van for a week till I sold it so always a way round things.

  6. They sell into the Sportsbike factory mostly from what I understand. I tried a price from them for my 2015 R1 last year and they offered £5k on a bike that has a book price of £9k at the time. They then just chased me for about 3 weeks coming up to £7k but still way under even book price, I think it’s a way to try to get you to loose sight of the original negative price and think they have upped it by £2k so must be worth it.

incidentally I looked on superbike factory at the time and they had 11 R1’s on there, so clearly didn’t want more stock of that bike

  7. Superbike factory have offered me a grand more than WBAB. It kinda opens my thinking process up as to whether to sell or not now :)

  8. They are obviously going to lowball on first offer (that’s what I’ve found with WBAC) then slowly increase over the coming weeks/months even. I’m still getting increased offers on my car I traded in in January.

You would probably be better off just calling in at a nearby used bike dealer to see what they would offer, a mate of mine is often round the county picking up new stock in his showroom, his stock often comes from past customers who bought from him choosing to offload their other bikes they don’t use, similar situation to yourself I guess.

  9. I had what I consider to be very fair offer from Superbike factory of £5.5K. It's the sort of area I would want, but as at the top, I dont need the money so maybe I will just leave it sitting in my garage?
That way if I am moved to go out on it I only need to tax it and job done, but ... I really dunno what the hell to do. I am now aware that some places are far better to sell to than others, that's for sure. :)
