My MTS 1260 has done 32.5k kilometres. It's in for its desmo at the end of the month so I've stripped it to do a bunch of other maintenance both preventative and required. I ordered some new bearings for the front wheel as I want to do them regardless. However, one of my current wheel bearings is VERY tough to turn and I'm sure I can feel a nick in part of its rotation. I didn't feel this on the bike at all, my question is, surely they should last a little longer than 30k? I've not gonna hard on them, sure most of my riding is intense week or more riding at one time over tours. But I'd still expect them to be healthy... I'm pulling the bearings out this weekend and will pull the walls off to see what the damage is, if I can spot any. Thoughts?
Seen wheel bearings fail on a nearly new bike, also on cars with low miles. Can be a bit random tbh and maybe a manufacture flaw, poor seal or just bad luck.
Bit of a silly question, but what are the common signs of bearing failure/fatigue to look out for without checking the bearings via wheel play/manual inspection? As I said, I felt nothing on the bike whilst riding so didn't feel the need to check often.
