track days abroad

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by Ruffs, May 23, 2012.

  1. I am learning to ride on track, and did 7 days last year and will do the same the same this year. I am considering a three or four day trip with Focused Events later this year.
Would you more experienced riders recommend or discourage this? (Not on basis of my choice of provider, I find FE ok - thanks)
I have a concern that I might not be fast enough at this stage?
Usually feel pretty tired after a single track day, so would three day event be too much? (59 in good health!!).
Would I be out of my depth?

    Very keen all the same..:)

    Thanks

  2. seeing as you like FE, wherever they are going. There are plenty of sedate paced riders in novice groups. Just enjoy

  3. Thanks. Haven't tried any other trackday firms, would you recommend any?

  4. Speak to jonathan when he comes out (im talking literally) as he has done a few in Almera etc.

  5. You'll get fast riders and slower riders the same as any other track day.

The great thing is about 3/4 dayers is that there's less pressure (from yourself!) on you to do every session so you can sit some out if you don't feel like it.

As far as being tired goes, you will probably feel knackered by the end of the 3 days, but not as knackered as you think - don't forget you won't have much travelling on the actual days /lugging stuff out of vans, etc - most people get there a day before and leave a day after so you can wind down a bit.

It's a great experience - you should deffo go! (and I'd like to put in a recommendation for No Limits ...)

  6. I'm off too almeria in September with focussed, where r u thinking of.

  7. As has been said far more relaxed and if I am honest I'll probably only do euro td's going forward.

Last euro TD I did was with FE it was ok, much prefer no limits... Most euro TD's you have a briefing on day one and that's it, but not with FE strangely.

  8. Thanks for advice all. I was toying with Almeria, waiting to see if work commitments permit! Will look at No Limits too.

  9. Honestly Steve, get a track bike and some spares and then go for it. It can have lights & MOT so you can ride the thing there etc so you dont have to worry about transporting the thing (with all the other days you do).

Would lighten the load of having a whoops and I think you will get more out of it mate and it wont cost you a mint if something goes poop.

Simple economics. Just have a think about it and it makes sense.

I would go for a crashed or tatty road CBR6 as they are solid and hold their value or a kwak as you said you liked the 6R.

Doesnt have to cost too much and parts are easily available and cheap.

    Just my pennies worth.

Still planning on doing CSS again this year?

  10. Myself and a few mates are doing Cartagena at the end of October. 4 days on track and even an endurance event at some poitn for those who want it. This is through Hottrax Motorsport

  11. I think the abroad trackdays are the best.
I'm doing the same one as cranker and this will be my 4th time.
The good thing is you get allsorts of levels of rider at them, but everyone ends up in a group according to there ability.
At a steady 59, you'll be fine. There are alot of people of that age and older. I love the different character's i have met on the abroad trips.
I'm not a fan of FE, i find they think they're very special and full of arrogance, but no limits are really good. The briefing is short and sweet and if there's anyone being an idiot out on track then the get them in for the bollocking and not stop the sessions for a mass meeting to tell everyone to calm down......even the calm ones.
Hottrax are also like no limits in that respect.
My advice is do any of them. Because there's so much track time you don't feel the need to do every session and in a sense its all much more relaxed atmosphere and you don't feel noticeably fatiqued.
Come and do cartagena :) !!!

  14. Once you have done a track day abroad, you will never look at a rainy day at Mallory the same :upyeah:

  16. And that's a fact!
Me and the Mrs do it as our annual holiday and stay on for a week after.

  17. Same place or move on somewhere

  18. Same place. Well about 30 mins from the track. Its where hottrax have the hotel, a place called san Pedro. We love it there. Next to the sea. People are friendly and there's plenty to do if you want to.

  19. Speak to you next weekend paul. We are flying to alicante
