Hello everyone, new to the forum and joined to learn more about 2 valve Ducatis and other models. I recently have begun to ride less and have sold all of my bikes. I am in the process of searching for a final bike as a base to build and have decided it will be a Ducati. So, I have joined the forum to talk more with other members about their bikes, best models, mechanical experiences, and such. I am in the Gulf Coast area in the U.S., and travel throughout the U.S. very often. My earliest bikes were twins; thus, I suppose I have come full circle in my choice to pursue a Ducati. It’s the Trellis frame and that 90-degree Desmo engine that won so many over, including me I suppose. There is no engine out there with the same characteristics. It’s a brilliant performer, and no it won’t have 200 hp, but that's not what Ducati is about to me. It's a certain feeling that other bikes couldn't capture. You have grunt out of corners: You dip the bike in, you clip the apex, feed the throttle, and it makes you smile. It’s how these engines make power... Now they have traction control, ABS, automatic electronic suspension and more. It's a more complicated bike. It doesn’t add to the fun factor for me. I'm looking to find the best of the really well loved and engineered of Ducati bikes, something special. And make it lighter and stronger with a two-valve engine and less electronics, so the design is much cleaner. I think the forums are where that love and knowledge lies...
If you are looking for classic ducati twin belt drive bikes. One of my dreams is to replicate the TT2 world championship bikes in the 1980's which won the world championship 4 times in a row and developed into world superbike series. I'd use a later engine from the 1100 EVO ( monster or hypermotard 2 valve) There are lots supplying parts for the frame which was light and handled excellently.eg https://www.tga.co.uk/shop/ducati-frames/ Fit any 2 valve engine. There is a specific website for enthusiasts. https://www.ducatittandf1.com/ Different and a fun trackside or even better roadside.
Ahh not a bad idea, it would be a handful. I originally talked Randy Martin into building a titanium frame for a Superveloce I got my hands on next year. It was my first choice. And ill be damned if the valvetrain didnt let go on the engine before I dropped a deposit! So that idea went into the bin after a battle with MV about it. I entertained the Bol D Or for sale by Walt Siegl but decided it would be a torture rack! I did look at a Pantah, and am entertaining a Scrambler Cafe racer or Sports Classic right now. But those both have some issues. I plan on posting the build as I go.
