V4 Engine Tune V4 Multi

  1. Clever those Italians. With one hand give us a 4 year warranty and with the other tie us into one of those 'approved ' akra systems.......and let's not even go down that insurance rabbit hole again........:joy:

  2. I fail to understand why a manufacturer should stand by their warranty if a third party is producing the ECU maps.

    As said above, if BHP and others are so sure they will not blow the engine then they should provide their own warranty.

    I spoke to BHP at the NEC a few years ago and, whilst i am certain the tune will make the bike run better, they do not have to adhere to emissions and noise tests like Ducati do and were not very convincing on what would happen when the bike went in for a service. From memory, i think there was a fee for them to change back to the standard map and then back again after the service.

    Someone with more knowledge may know different but i was given a run down of the Ducati service at an open day and the dealer connects the bike to Bologna and i seem to recollect i was told they can tell if other maps have been uploaded.

  3. When providing the modified file BHP stated:
    "You can switch between the modified and original files as many times as you like, there is no cost incurred for this.
    If your bike is likely to be updated by the official dealer, then it is easier if you reinstall the original file before it does.
    This will save you money if the dealer does update your bike as you will only pay for the updated file and not a reset fee for your flasher.
    If you do lose the map because of a dealer update we offer a new map at a reduced price of just £120."

    My goal is to avoid having the map updated, so I'll have to ask the dealer if they need to when it gets serviced. That probably means I'll have to 'fess up as to why. It seems a good plan to reload the original file prior to a service just in case.

    This is a limitation, but still worth it in my view. BHP seem to have support from Ducati Manchester, but what that really means I don't know. I may have a 'what if' conversation with my dealer. If the engine blows up, I'll load the original map...

  4. I don’t think the dealer has much say in what’s uploaded when the bike is serviced. They plug the bike in and Bologna does all the work.

Issue with that is that if the new update , (once you remove the BHP install) is that the BHP Map will not reload to the ECU again as the upload from the factory can change the original fuel map that the BHP map is based from so the BHP written map no longer works with the ( updated) fuel map as the original ( based map) is different .
     
  6. That makes sense though. I'd fully expect that, it's just annoying that BHP charge a premium for it. However, it does take time and labor soooooo :bucktooth:
     
  7. I've been running the BrenTuning map from Motobull since October 2022. Had 2 services done since with software updates each time loading the original on before taking it in and then reloading the map. Was half expecting to have to pay for an update each time but both times the map has gone on without any issues.

    Having just informed my insurance co at renewal of the intent to fit the full termi system (an official Ducati accessory) they wanted to know the performance increase. Ducati web site quotes 5bhp. Insurance guy said they will record it, but it doesn't load the premium unless power is increased by more than 10%.

    This is only my experience, and others may receive different outcomes :)

  9. Do they only care about power increase? Or would the fact it's "race only - not for road use" (on Akra anyways) have an impact?

  11. As above, informed them of intent of fitting an exhaust that is an official Ducati accessory. The only question asked was by how much does it increase power (no others), so I checked on the web site whilst on the phone.

    The packing states the system is not officially approved for street use (which simply means they didn't test it) but to check the standards for approval of non-original after market exhaust system components in your specific country. It says nothing on the exhaust itself, and it will pass an MoT (this doesnt come close to the db of the system on my Pani FE).

  12. Interesting (ish) that not for road use, or similar is not not stamped on the exhaust now, saves having to grind it off!!
    Friend of mine got stopped on the way to BSB at Cadwell, they were stopping many bikes, policeman (person/ officer) was making a fuss because there were no OE stamps on his after market cans.
     
  13. Insurance policy will almost certainly have small print stating the bike must be in a road legal condition. It’s their get out clause.

    My 2024 Rally is going in for its one year service next month, I think it’s had about all the software updates it can get by then. Going to get an ECU update from either BT Moto or BHP straight after. The bike is box standard with the Akra slip on.

    I’m leaning toward BT Moto as I have had their tunes in my Gen1 and Gen2 XRs with really great results, and still have the handheld device, just need a new cable, and then the bike swap and tune are really good value not needing the expensive handheld with import duty. It looks like Motobull have gone so will go straight to them.

    @Captain and @hubeluk, are you still running the BT Tune?
     
  15. Not using the BT one now , moved to BHP uk with great results.
    Found the US one was a bit more hassle to get answers . BHP have shown and proved results and invest in what they do.
     
  16. Been looking at the BT Moto website - much clearer information, and what you are buying. The BHP UK looks very poor website in comparison. I can't even figure out the cost, nor is the bike listed there. Not exactly confidence inspiring.

    I still find this interesting, as I would appreciate a smoother ride, less heat. I'm happy with power output.
