  1. It has to be said that Knopfler always sounds like Knopfler and no one else. That is true originality.
Doesn't matter what guitar he's playing either.
I have a lot of time for him.

  2. Can't listen to Brothers in Arms. Years ago, the girl in the flat next door to us played it very loud for a couple of weeks not long after it came out, and we got very sick of it indeed.
Finally we turned our Celestion Dittons towards the wall, put Bat Out Of Hell on at near full volume and went out for the evening. Sorted.

Still can't listen to Dire Straits though :frown:

  3. or the inimitable Paco Pena.

  4. yyy mark knopfler ?:D not sure why as im not much musician myself.... I love dire straits songs especially the part he plays solo on guitar :p therefore my choice mark knopfler :D ...

  5. I can't listen to Pink Floyd for similar reasons, gah, I f****** hate Pink Floyd and f****** Dire Straits. Love over Gold at a push I can just about stomach and only the one side, telegraph road and P.I.

  6. That's some wild stuff you're listening to, Greyman!

  7. Good call, Mr Rimpler! I'm not a musician, but can appreciate genius and true artistry.
    Regards

  8. Shawn Lane

I'm not suggesting that this guy was world class (he apparently died in 2003 at the young age of 40), and I just stumbled across him by chance, but to me, he was pretty good.

  9. suppose it depends on the genre.

    rock - maybe slash

some of the early GnR stuff was raw and excellent.....

....but if you dont like rock - you arent gonna vote for slash !!!

there are so many and so subjective - where to start :)

  11. Only from a rock perspective (its what I listen to),,

Angus Young, its not all about speed (some early ACDC is real bluesy and slow, ''Ride On'')

    Hendrix (Crying Blue Rain)

Slash. All of his playing has melody and feel. Unlike Satriani and co where its technical, but no ''feel''

    Rory Gallagher

    Alex Lifeson (Rush)

    Jimmy Page

Plenty speed demons out there but they seem to lack emotion in their playing...

  12. Have I missed Carlos Santana mentioned in anyone's post?

  13. Here's three of my favourites: Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy:

  14. Igor Presnyakov

    Iggypres - YouTube

Not big and famous but incredibly talented and his acoustic interpretations are brilliant.

  15. As Jimi Hendrix once said in response to the question "What's it like being the best Guitarist in the world?"

"Don't know, you had better ask Rory Gallagher !"

    I'll go with that

  16. Good call.

  17. Guitarists - Brian may,joe satriani,Steve vai,Angus young
    drummers-cosy Powell ,Shannon letto(thirty seconds to mars),nico mcbrain(iron maiden)
some people may frown upon James toseland but you can't get much better than being a motorcycle racer and being in a rock band, living the dream :upyeah:
