I'm considering a track day bike & was wondering what happens to 848 challange bikes? I understand that to enter you pay a payment to Ducati UK, does this cover the purchase price of the bike, ie do you then own the bike & are able to sell the bike when you finish the season? Next question is, if you then own the bike, what sort of money do they fetch when offered for sale? Do you have a spares kit etc? Can anybody answer my questions please?
You buy an 848, prep it to the technical regs then pay your entry fees. price wise 7.5k to 12.5k depending on spec. There will be a few around the end of the season. May need and engine refresh depending upon spec etc. In fact there could be a shit load around the end of the season if the 899 is officially announced. I cant see Ducati UK supporting a race series for non current model bikes.
The teams/owners buy them outright and there was no spares package other than what you bought for the bike yourself. As there are very few changes between the bikes year-on-year (with the exception of the 848 to 848 EVO update) they mostly stay in the series. If you're lucky you may find one but I would expect it to be more expensive that a standard 848 track bike given they would have had work and upgrades done on them.
I was led to belive that there will be a cross over year with 848 and 899 competing along side each other, not a fact but speculation.
Back in the late 90's when the 911 became water cooled, the old 993 and new 996 competed in the same class, embarrassingly for Porsche the 993's still did very well.
As i said not my thoughts but dealer speculation when i asked the question,i would think a well sorted 848 running ohlins ect would give a 899 a hard time, also would Ohlins,K tech, fairing companys etc have upgrades available ?,i doubt it the thing has not even been released yet !
Are they permitted many upgrades in that series? If not, then one may as well by an early/crashed 848 and track prep it oneself , shirley?
Engine is supposed to be stock, and bhp limited to 140 (I think used to 137 pre evo spec). Though I am sure a few will be standard, I am lead to believe that a few have been more than blueprinted............ Pass me those titanium rods XXXX
All the info including the rules are here: Ducati 848 Challenge I would hold off until the "899" is announced as I have a feeling that the 848 challenge could disappear with the 899 challenge waiting to replace it (ie, to sell new bikes from the showroom) so there could be some bargains coming up...
